Good morning, I hope your second week of home schooling went well. Again like last week it was really pleasing and exciting opening up my email inbox to see and hear the wonderful activities that are taking place. Keep sending me those photographs and messages. Well done everybody and Keep up the hard work. Similar to the last couple of weeks I have again created some slides with a set of weekly ideas for reading, topic and SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar). I have put one spelling activities, one punctuation/grammar activities and one main reading idea. Each spelling and SPaG activity could take up to 15 minutes but it may take slight less or slightly more. You could choose one of the activities each day- so for example- - Monday- spelling activity - Tuesday- grammar/punctuation - Wednesday- reading activity - Thursday- spelling activity - Friday-Bank holiday Friday Then one of the topic/science/life skills or forest school activities. A daily slot of 5/10 minute reading is still important if time allows. I have also put a topic idea and some science ideas. As well as a forest school session and a life skill activity. I hope this will add some variety for learning and as the weather is currently warm, it will be nice, if possible, for the children to do some outside learning. These activities will again vary in time depending on the interest of the child and which direction they decide to take the learning. I would estimate 30 minutes. Have fun and enjoy. Please do email me with any questions. I look forward to hearing how your week has gone. Mrs Sealy, Mrs Smith and Mrs Wild [email protected]

Reading Focus This week for reading I have set an assignment on Reading Eggs for you to complete. Please do log on and have a try. https://readingeggs.co.uk/ Also, please do keep up with your daily reading where possible. This could be sharing a book at bedtime, in the bath at breakfast time or at any point in the day where you have 5 minutes to spare.

Spelling- Lesson 1- Year 1/2 common exception words. On the link below are the Year 1/ 2 common exception words. I would like the children to be able to read and spell these words. You can also find these words in the middle of your child's reading records and in the home learning pack sent home before Easter. I have also attached a power point on the website on the Leopard page which has all of common exception words which may also aid learning. https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/english/primary-spelling/spelling-year-2-age-6-7/ Activity ideas: - Choose up to 8 words or less- ensure your child can read them and they know what they mean. Then ask them to practise spelling the word correctly. The children have been shown in class, a variety of ways of how to remember and practise spelling a word. The website above share some more ideas on this. -You could ask your child to write them in a sentence- so that they are using them in context. - Get them to spell them out aloud to you - The website below has many different games focusing on the common key words

SPaG lesson 2 – Homophone- to, too, two

In todays lesson I would like the children to continue to build upon their understanding of homophones. To refresh their memory the video link from last weeks homophone learning is below. Start off by watching this link- https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zqhpk2

p/articles/zc84cwx

Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings. They also have different spellings.

Can the children now think of any other homophones?

Page 6: Leopard Class Week 3- 4.5.20 Weekly SPaG, reading and ... · children to be able to read and spell these words. You can also find these words in the middle of your child's reading

Today the children are going to be looking at the homophone ‘to, too or two’ Below is a video clip going through the homophone, begin by watching this. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zqhpk2p/articles/zc4jpbk

The different meanings: ‘To’ is used to show motion, e.g. "I’m going to the shop." ‘Too’ means ‘also’ or ‘extremely’, e.g. "I would like to come too but I'm too tired." ‘Two’ means the number 2, e.g. "Let’s buy two apples.

Activity ideas: • On the website link below -scroll down and there is a

game and quiz which the children could play https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zqhpk2p/articles/zc4jpbk

• Your child could make a poster explaining the different ways of writing ‘to’ and giving the meanings • Your child could use the 3 different ‘to’ and put them into different sentences using the correct context. • Or complete the worksheet on the next slide.

Lesson 1 – Stage 1- Designing the product This week I would like the children to start thinking about what they would like to make (there are some examples on the previous slides). • First they will need to think about what they are designing, what materials

they will need and what equipment they will need to make it. Talk it through with a sibling or parent.

• Then using the sheet provided on the following slide or your child can

independently draw and label a picture of their design. • Next label the different parts and what they are going to be made out of. • Then write a list of materials you will need and any other equipment.

Life skills- As the children are currently at home, I thought it would be nice for them to develop, practise and refine some key life skills. I have made a list below with some suggestions, although, of course you may have more ideas or things that you may already be working on at home.

Some life skill ideas: • using money- set up a pretend shop at home practise paying for items

or being the shop keeper • Menu planning for the following week- plan a shopping list • Practise tying up shoe laces • Folding the washing up and helping to assist with loading the washing

machine • Helping to make dinner/tea • Cutting fruit and vegetables • Feed pets/clear out their homes or water the garden or house plants
