1. International conference “Water for Life – Education for Water” Partners of the project “Leonardo da Vinci – Water for life – Education for Water” actively participate at the international conference, which was held in two sessions with following topics: Session 1: Formal and informal education to solve environmental issues

Presentation 1: Environmental education at schools of Latvia and its importance to promote awareness of society in nature and water values (presented by Velga Kakse, Ministry of Education and Science). Presentation 2: Environmental education opportunities in informal education (presented by Inese Liepiņa Youth Initiative Centre of Latvia, Childrens Environmental School). Presentation 3: Programmes of the Foundation for Environmental Education and the topics for the next school year (presented by Jānis Ulme, Foundation for Environmental Education). Presentation 4: Iniciatives of the Bauska district schools in environmental education (presented by Ilze Jume Bauska District Council, Uzvara Secondary School).

Session 2: Educational methods about the water to improve environmental education at schools

Presentation 1: Play with Water (presented by Professor Nils Ekelund Mid Sweden University). Presentation 2: Educational methods about the water, educational trails of water quality monitoring (presented by Andris Urtāns, North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve). Presentation 3: Presentations of the methodical materials and school supplies for the environmental education.

At the end of the conference we made final conclusions.

2. Brief review of project activities and tasks agreed at the 1st partners’ meeting to be

done during the 1st project phase and be presented at 2nd partners’ meeting (mrs Andreja Nekrep)

Phase 1: “Identifying and selecting water areas that will be embraced to the project in each participating country" each partner selects and identifies the water area in his country that will be embraced into project and where educational water trail will be established

Second Transnational Partners’ Meeting: exchanges of the best practices, analysis and evaluation of information collected during the first project phase join of best practice in a report development of common methodology for studying natural and cultural heritage as well as economic impacts on identified water areas (the leading partner offers a few tested examples of methodology) preparation of the next project phase

Phase 2: “Studying natural and cultural heritage as well as economic impacts on identified water areas” all partners’ institutions collect information about natural and cultural heritage in the area and the level they are influenced by economic factors (collecting statistical data/analysis, questionnare/survey) preparing the portfolio of natural heritage, cultural heritage and economic impacts on selected water areas in each participating country based on collected materials, exploring the differences and identifying similarities results of the collection will be joined in a best practice report

3. Exchange of good practice: each partner presents selected water area in his/her

country which be embraced into the project and where educational water trail will be established (20 minutes per partner)

Project started in autumn 2008.

During spring 2009 we have organizedthe structure of the project in the

different schools. We have had twomeetings with the teachers for planning.

The 12th of May we will educate teachersin water methods and

species of plants and animals.


Application to the County Administration in Västernorrland

FAILED!8000 Euro á 2000 each for the four schools.The aim with the project is to use the money

for designing signs at the water trails.
