“Current weather conditions indicate we’re on track for a great fall color year,” said Pa-tricia Arndt, communications and outreach manager for the Minnesota Department of Nat-ural Resources Parks and Trails Division.

“with the exception of dry weather in northeastern Minne-sota, most of the state has had close to or above-average pre-cipitation, making for healthy, green trees going into fall. If we continue to have adequate rainfall as nights become lon-

ger, the autumn display should be spectacular.”Colors typically peak between

mid-September and early-Octo-ber in the northern third of Min-nesota, between late-September and early-October in the central third, and between late-Sep-tember and mid-October in the southern third (which includes the Twin Cities).Peak fall color typically lasts

about two weeks.

DNR Predicts Spectacular Fall Color Season

Tigers Take Down Titans in MRC Match; Lose to St. Peter

The Belle Plaine High School tennis team evened its Minne-sota River Conference record a 2-2 following last Tuesday’s 5-2 triumph at Tri-City United. This week did not start so well as the Tigers dropped a non-conference match to St. Peter 6-1 Monday at the Belle Plaine Athletic Complex. The Tigers were scheduled

to resume MRC play by host-ing Jordan Tuesday after this edition of the Herald went to press. Belle Plaine will also be at home when conference-lead-ing Le Sueur-Henderson pays a visit on Thursday.

Tigers 5, Tri-City United 2Belle Plaine’s hope of no

worse than a second-place fin-ish in the MRC was strength-ened with a 5-2 triumph over Tri-City United at Le Center last Tuesday. The Tigers won three of four

singles matches and two of three doubles match ups. Belle Plaine No. 1 singles player Ire-land Lambrecht overcame a 0-6 loss in the first set by winning the next two 6-3, 6-4 against

Kristi Frederick. Also victori-ous for Belle Plaine were No. 3 Caitlin Preusser over Alyssa Quist 6-1, 6-1 and No. 4 Kier-sten Skelley against Kadi Lowe 6-2, 6-2. The Tigers’ Katlin Sannan dropped her No. 2 sin-gles match against Guadalupe Ruiz 4-6, 2-6.In doubles competition, Belle

Plaine’s No. 1 duo of Rachel Schroers and Bailey Gavin beat Emily Holicky and Chase Arndt 6-3, 7-5, while the No. 2 team of Lauren Murphy and Sarah Luskey needed three sets but defeated Taylor Factor and Kaitlyn Buss 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. The Tigers’ No. 3 team of Siri Kuhn and Jenna westin lost to Adri-anna Tiede and Faith Factor 4-6, 2-6.

St. Peter 6, Tigers 1The Tigers lost to a potent St.

Peter team in a nonconference match Monday in Belle Plaine.Lambrecht accounted for the

Tigers’ only victory and it took nearly 2 1/2 hours to earn as she outlasted Rachel Huber 7-5, 1-6, 7-5 in the No. 1 singles

match. The only other match to go

three sets was at No. 3 doubles where Preusser and Kuhn were beaten by Claire Thompson and Alex Gault 6-4, 3-6, 3-6.

Plaine’s fastest time (21:19), which was good for seventh overall. Other Tigers who scored in the meet were Cas-sandra Stolt (22nd in 22:26), McKenna Herrmann (28th in 22:45), Danika Schroeder (33rd in 23:06) and Alissa Schultz (42nd in 23:32).

the Tigers quickly marched 71 yards, the final half of those (36 yards) coming on another keeper by Narveson to make it 21-0 with 1:43 left in the first quarter.Again, the Eagles could do

little with the ball and Belle Plaine’s offense was back in business. A short pass from Narveson to walsh resulted in a 25-yaed scoring play as the lat-ter ran over an Eagle during his gallop to the end zone, making it 28-0 with 9:46 left in the first half. Later in the second quarter,

Belle Plaine’s Matt Nelson in-tercepted a pass to halt New Ulm’s offense once again. Af-ter an exchange of possessions, Brink had his second long punt return of the night, this one of some 70 yards to the New Ulm 15 yard line. A couple of plays later, Brink scored on a 4-yard run to make it 35-0 with 2:21 left in the half. The Eagles’ Jordan Hillesheim

found the end zone on a 53-yard catch and run pass play from Alex Portner with seven seconds left in the first half. The two-point conversion try failed and halftime arrived with Belle Plaine ahead 35-6.As if Brink, a sophomore,

didn’t have enough fun in the open field in the first half, he added some more early in the third quarter as he took off on a 64-yard touchdown run to make it 42-6.Belle Plaine’s other two touch-

downs in the second half came on a 2-yard run by walsh (his third TD of the game) and a 47-yard scamper by Brenden Ey-rich to make the final 55-6. Bal-tierrez made good on all seven of his point-after kicks, while the last attempt of the night was tried and missed by defensive specialist Alec Ruud, who had fun with the experience none-theless.For the third time in its last

four games, Belle Plaine was able to give reserves consider-able playing time, including backup quarterback Carsen Ladd, who is a sophomore and will be contending to take over for Narveson, now a senior, next season. The Tigers had 432 yards of

offense (351 rushing and 81 passing). Brink and walsh were both at or over the century mark in rushing – Brink 112 yards and one TD on 10 carries and walsh 100 yards and two TDs on 11 carries. Narveson kept seven times for 74 yards and two TDs, while Eyrich finished with two carries for 47 yards and a TD.Narveson completed seven of

nine passes for 81 yards and one TD. walsh caught two passes for 48 yards and one TD. Brody Curtiss added two grabs for 20 yards.Ruud, a junior linebacker,

again sparked the defense with 17 tackles. Danny Mc-Cann added eight, while Tyler Grieves, Jonny vinkemeier and Dylan Johnson each had seven. Grieves also picked up two sacks. Nelson and wally Schultz both had five tackles, followed by Noah Ellingsworth and Josh Juaire with four apiece.“Overall, I think it was a good

team win, one of those games that everyone gets to play and that is always fun,” said Tigers coach Justin Johnston. “Our focus on both sides of the ball was much better this week and I thought the kids did a great job focusing all their attention on New Ulm, knowing we have a big rivalry game this week versus Tri-City United. we re-ally wanted the kids to focus on fundamentals and get better this week individually and as team, and we did that. we will make sure that TCU gets our best ef-fort on Friday night and that is

what we are focused on now.”Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

at Montgomery.Tri-City United has been on

a roll en route to posting a 5-0 record and top five ranking in the state in Class 3A. TCU’s latest victim was Albert Lea by a 47-7 score Friday night in Montgomery. The Titans’s first four victories of the season (in order) were Sibley East (55-6), New Ulm (49-7), Fairmont (40-0) and worthington (53-0). All totaled, the Titans have out-scored their opposition 244-20.

On the flip side, TCU’s only opponent with a winning re-cord so far in 2015 is Fairmont at 3-2. The other four teams are a combined 2-18. TCU’s next two opponents (Belle Plaine and Marshall) are a combined 9-1.The Titans, who will be cele-

brating homecoming Friday, do most of their offensive damage on the ground, rushing for 334 yards Friday night. Their de-fense is also very strong as evi-dent from the fact they haven’t given up more than one TD in a game this year.

Elliot Rudd (405) and Dylan Bigaouette (372) helped lead Belle Plaine to a second-place finish at last Tuesday’s Lions invitational in Norwood young america.
