You might say we saved the best for last…LPE is very lucky to have an amazing, talented, and dedicated group of Educational Assistants (EA’s) that do everything from help with sight words, to recess duty. Please meet, our amazing team! Mrs. Bell is a former LPE parent and long-time volunteer. We are so happy to have her assisting our youngest learners! Mrs. Bertram Traci is an educational assistant in the Voyager classroom. This is her 6th year here at LPE as and EA, but she has been a parent in our community for years! She and her husband, Devin, have 4 children that have all gone through LPE. They have a senior at Ponderosa, a Freshman at Ponderosa, an 8th grader at Sagewood, and a 6th grader at Sagewood. Mrs. Bertram loves to do activities with her family, and she also enjoys cross-stitching and playing board games. Mrs. Ferguson might look familiar ...she’s Mrs. Waufle’s sister! This is her first year at Legacy Point and she enjoys working with students and helping them learn. Mrs. Krzak (or Ms. Irma, as the kids know her) is in her second year as the Health Room assistant at Legacy Point. She is a native Spanish speaker and loves Mexican food! She and her husband have been married for 22 years and they have 4 children--two boys and 2 girls. Both of her girls attended Legacy Point, so she knew what an amazing place it is! Ms. Irma loves spending time with her family, gardening, and taking pictures of her travels, German Shepherd, and family. When you ask her about her favorite part of LPE, she says it’s the kids, no question! Mrs. Heffron can often be seen in the office...but that’s because she does a little bit of everything at Legacy Point. Ms. Traci started her career at LPE as an EA, and has changed role over the years and has been the Principal’s Secretary/Bookkeeper for the past four years. She has three adult children, and two adorable grandbabies that keep her busy. When she’s not helping run the front office, you can find her at the tennis or volleyball courts, where she plays both sports! Continued on Next Page…………...

Mr. Linnabary is our amazing Building Engineer , who helps us keep our 15-year old building looking much younger! Mr. Jacob loves to play basketball, snowboard, and music--he even DJ’s in his spare time. He also really enjoys working with the students, helping them become responsible leaders on the playground, lunch room, and even helping students with flag duty at the end of the day. Mrs. Matlick, also known as Ms. Ter r i, in the lunchroom, is responsible for ensur ing that our students have the most delicious and nutritious lunches! She was born in Iowa and have been in food industry most of her life. Ms. Terri has 3 sons and 9 grandchildren and when she’s not helping feed the students of LPE, she helps take care of her grandsons. Ms. Terri’s big hobby is teaching her grandsons how to play sports--and they’re working on baseball at the moment. She has been at Legacy Point for 2 years and plans on being here next year. She enjoys working at LPE because of the caring staff. She sees that they genuinely care for the kids and she enjoys seeing the kids every day! Mrs. Murphy has been an educational assistant in the voyager classroom for the past 6 years. Both of her kids, Lili and Jimmy also attended LPE and are now at Sagewood. Mrs. Murphy was born in Vietnam, immigrated to the US in 1989, lived in Colorado for 15 years, moved to the Big Island of Hawaii for 3 years, and moved back to Colorado in 2008. Mrs. Southerlin’s name might look familiar --her mother-in-law was the PLS for several years at Legacy Point! We are so glad to have Ms. Stephanie on the Voyager EA team, where she gives special support to one student, but works with all of them. Mrs. VanDoozer has worked at Legacy Point Elementary since 2011. She is an EA mainly suppor ting Kindergarten and 1st Grade. She also works in BASE (Explorer's Club) before school and during breaks. Mrs. VanDoozer moved to Littleton, Colorado when she 10 yrs old from Wisconsin and has lived in Parker with her husband for 23 years. She has two daughters (Jessica & Hannah) and one son (Travis) who all graduated from Legend HS. Two are in college, Jessica works with giraffes at Denver Zoo and coaches gymnastics at Parker Rec Center, Hannah works at Walmart, Travis is a competitive gymnast and coaches the boys team at his gym. Mrs. VanDoozer loves to read, do anything creative, and go to movies. The best thing about working at LPE is being part of a community that genuinely cares about helping the kids find joy in learning, socializing and coming to school each day. Mrs. Ward is the Educational Assistant for second and third grade at Legacy Point. This is her four th year at LPE and my 25th year in DCSD! She worked at two other elementary schools in the district prior to coming to Legacy Point. She absolutely loves working with students and teachers and can’t imagine doing anything else! Mrs. Ward also enjoys spending time with my family and friends when I am not at school. She is also a huge sports fan who loves all the Colorado sports teams--just ask her about the Nuggets! She also enjoys reading, music, and trying new restaurants--her favorite food is tacos with hot salsa! For her, the best part about working at LPE: the amazing and wonderful kids and staff...the best school she’s ever had the pleasure to work for! Mrs. Yarcho is in her fir st year at Legacy Point Elementary. She is am a Special Education Level IV Educational Assistant that works with the teacher, students, and other EA IV’s in the Voyager classroom. She grew up in Northern Virginia and attended the University of Arizona in Tucson. She met her husband, who is originally from Colorado, so that’s where she ended up. Mrs. Yarcho has two children, a 12-year old son and a 9 year old daughter. She enjoys reading, hiking and spending time with family. For her, the best thing about working at LPE is the students and supportive team environment.

With the school year coming to a close, and summer on the horizon, Habit 7 couldn’t come at a better time! When we “sharpen the saw” we don’t just lay around and “do nothing.” Nope, we take time to renew our heart, mind, body, and spirit. Sometimes, that can look like napping, or resting...or it might look like reading a book, exercising, spending time with friends and family, watching a movie, spending time outdoors, and much more! How are some ways you and your family might sharpen the saw over the summer?

Dr. Stephen Covey uses The Lumberjack Story to illustrate the importance of sharpening your saw

Talking points at home:

What are ways we can sharpen all 4 areas of our lives this summer?

How can you help others sharpen their saw?

Another way families can sharpen the saw over the summer is by delving into The Family Handbook Resources. We also have a Spanish version of The Family Handbook Resources.

At the back of this powerful resource is a book list. These books are common books found at home or at the public library. They aligned to the habits and give you the language to use when reading the books that match the habits.

Habit activities, which you can use these as a “Family Challenge” throughout the summer.

Do a book club with other LPE families around the Leader in Me book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, or any other of Dr. Covey’s books.

Student, Leader, Athlete

Did you know that we have an Olympian at Legacy Point? We absolutely do!! Sadie, who is in 3rd grade in Ms. Broyer’s class participated in the regional Special Olympics meet last weekend and placed 1st in backstroke and 2nd in freestyle. This qualifies her to compete in the Summer Special Olympics games in Grand Junction in June! Sadie says ther her two favorite strokes are...you guessed it, backstroke and freestyle. She loves swimming because, “I can go really fast and win.” If you see Sadie, make sure to congratulate her on her amazing accomplishment!
