Bradford was awarded UK Curry Capital SuperCity status in 2010, and with good reason as itis home to the world famous Mumtazrestaurant, not to mention the dozens of othersmall traditional curry houses throughout thecity. Leeds can offer you great fish and chipsuppers to fine dining by some of the country'sleading chefs. Whether it is lunch or dinner -many restaurants are based in grand buildingssuch as the newly refurbished Tiled Hall Cafe atLeeds Art Gallery.

But Yorkshire would not be complete withoutthe traditional pub lunch and these are available

throughout Leeds and Pennine Yorkshire inevery town and village whatever the size. Enjoya pint of real Yorkshire ale, Timothy Taylors hasbeen brewing in this area for 150 years andnow some of the smaller breweries arecompeting such as Saltaire and LeedsBreweries.

An amazing industrial history hasshaped the landscape of Leeds andPennine Yorkshire and it has nowbeen transformed into a vibrant andexciting area that you need to comeand experience.

Wakefield is a city known for its textile and mining heritageand also for its sculpture. To get a taste of the region’sindustrial heritage, the free-entry National Coal MiningMuseum for England offers visitors the opportunity todescend 140 metres underground down one of thecountry’s oldest coal mines. Above ground, the interactivegalleries introduce visitors to the history of mining. Situatedin a rural setting, it offers an unusual combination ofexciting experiences, whilst providing a genuine insight intothe hardworking lives of miners through the ages.

Due to the beautiful scenery of Leeds andPennine Yorkshire many TV series are filmed andhas been inspiration for many literary greats. Sowhy not stop off and see why they love Leedsand Pennine Yorkshire.

The world of Wuthering Heights is brought tolife in the famous village of Haworth. Thispicturesque village was once home to the literarygreats The Brontes and their home is now theBronte Parsonage Museum. The museum is one

of the many attractions in Haworth. The Bronteheritage also can be seen at Dewsbury Ministerwhere Reverend Patrick Bronte, father of thesisters, was once the curate. A guided heritagetour can be pre booked.

The Railway Children was filmed at Oakworthstation and Haworth and you can take a ride onthe magnificent steam trains and relive the filmon the Keighley Worth Valley Railway.

Marsden and Slaithwaite are both settings forthe TV series Where the Heart Is, and probablythe most famous is Holmfirth, home to the longrunning series Last of the Summer Wine. Youcan hop on aboard a vintage bus and take atour around the Holme Valley to see where theseries is filmed.

Otley is home to the filming of Emmerdaleand Heartbeat. Some of the filming forEmmerdale was filmed in Otley, which is knownas Hotton in the show and also filming tookplace in the village of Esholt where the originalWoolpack is open for food and drink and sellsEmmerdale memorabilia. Heartbeat was filmedin Otley and you can see where the policestation scenes were filmed.

Leeds Liverpool Canal - Bingley Five-rise lock staircaseopened in 1774 and is the most spectacular feature ofthe Leeds and Liverpool Canal. The canal passes directlynext to Salts Mill and the village of Saltaire which issteeped in fascinating history.

The Calder & Hebble Navigation - The Calder andHebble Navigation runs for 21 miles from Wakefield toSowerby Bridge. It connects the Aire and CalderNavigation at Wakefield, with the Rochdale Canal atSowerby Bridge, and the Huddersfield Broad Canal at

Cooper Bridge. An elegant footbridge carries theKirklees Way across the canal between Wakefieldand Dewsbury.

Hebble River - rises just above Ovenden Moor andflows south down the geological fault which passesfrom Ogden, through Halifax to Salterhebble. Takea detour around to Ogden Water Country Park forpicnics, walking and nature activities.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal - runs for 7 miles fromStandedge Tunnel to Huddersfield, and meets theHuddersfield Broad Canal at Aspley Basin, now amarina, Aspley Marina. Standedge Tunnel is nearly3 1/2 miles long, the highest, longest and deepestcanal tunnel in the country.

Standedge Tunnel and Visitor Centre - is thehighest, longest and deepest canal tunnel in theUK, stretching for 5,029 metres (3.25 miles)through hard millstone grit. A highlight of a visit toStandedge Tunnel is a boat ride into the tunnel.

For a different way to experience the wonders of PennineYorkshire, why not take to the water and encounter the manytwisting turning waterways that wind through the beautifulcountryside. Cruises are available on many of the these waterways.

Away from the towns and cities, Pennine Yorkshire has mile after mile of moorland, offering the perfectopportunity for groups to experience the great outdoors on way-marked pathways and trails.

Amongst the moorland, perhaps most fondly recognisable is the village of Holmfirth, a filming locationfor the long-running BBC1 television series ‘Last of the Summer Wine’. Located inside the building thatcame to be known as Compo’s house, the Last of the Summer Wine Exhibition contains memorabiliafrom the series and footage from the show. Next door, is The Wrinkled Stocking Tea Room.
