The overall 1st place winner will receive an invitation to compete at the Mid-South Fair Youth Talent Contest (providing eligibility). There is no entry fee. Contestants must pre-register by calling the MSU/ Lee County Extension Office at 841-9000 by Wednesday, August 24. Cash prizes will be awarded. Hot dog plates will be sold for $1.00 Youth ages 12-18 interested in a beginner sewing class may call our office to sign-up. You will be notified of the class date when it has been set. Sewing The $250.00 Martha Swann Scholarship is awarded to a high school senior or college freshman who is a current 4-H’er active in citizenship. Preference will be given to Congressional Award participants. Applications are available at 4-H office. The deadline has been extended to September 30. 4-H is again happy to host 4-H Day at MSU Football on Saturday, September 10 at 6:00

p.m.. This game is with the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. This is the first SEC

game of the season so we expect tickets will sell-out quickly. $15.00 includes game day

ticket, t-shirt and tailgate meal. ($1.00 extra will be charged for Adult 2XL or larger shirt).

Order forms are available for pick-up at the 4-H Office. You should mail your

order form and payment to the State 4-H Office (address on order form) by

September 1st. Please remember there will be a limited number of tickets

available and payment MUST accompany your order.

The Cloverbud Club for ages 5-7 will meet Tuesday, August 16th at 4:00 p.m. at the 4-H Office. Call 841-9000 to sign-up.

Robotics will meet August 11 and 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the 4-H Office.

Clover Patch Friends will resume meeting

September 12.

4-H Club Record Books are due to the 4-H Office on or before

September 30th.

The 4-H Awards Program will be November 10. Watch your newsletter for more information.

Outstanding 4-H Volunteer

4-H’ers may submit a nomination for the Outstanding 4-H Volunteer Leader Award, which will be presented at the County Awards Program. Nominations must be written by a current 4-H’er. Nomination deadline is September 30th.

Mississippi State guidelines require that equipment and offices be secured if Extension personnel are not on the premises.

Clubs wishing to meet at our office after hours will need to make prior arrangements to get the key, which will give you access to the large conference room and hall bathroom only. If any other rooms or equipment are needed, prior arrangements should be made through our office.

Aggies Now is the time to be getting serious about showing livestock. The ownership deadline is September 1st. The next Aggies meeting will be Tuesday, August 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the Extension Office. Please be prepared to turn in entries and payment for the Lee County Shows.

Poultry The County Poultry Show will be Saturday, August 27 at 10 a.m., before the beef show.

Ropes and Reins Winners in the District, State and Regional Horse Shows will be announced in the September newsletter.

Ropes and Reins will meet Monday, August 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Office. Remember, you do not have to own a horse to participate in Ropes and Reins so call the 4-H office to see how you can take part in the horse project.

The Northeast District Horse Show meeting will be Monday, August 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the North MS R&E Center in Verona.

A BIG thank you to the Driskill Family for allowing the Regional participants to have a very successful fundraiser at their restaurant in Plantersville.

Shooting Sports Congratulations to the following 4-H’ers who qualified for the State Tournament held recently in Meridian:

Important District Shooting Sports meeting will be Monday, August 22, at 6:00 p.m. at the Extension Office. Please try to attend. All rule proposals must be submitted to Brandon by Friday, August 19th.
