UsesLTS/LTC taxiway lights are used in CAT I, II & III as: ■■ Centreline lights, in straight and curved sections and on rapid exit taxiways■■ Stop bars■■ Intermediate holding position lights■■ De-/anti-icing facility exit lights■■ Apron lead-in lights■■ Runway guard lights where applicable at night

Specific Benefits of the LED Lights

Features

■■ Very low energy consumption (typically 15 W per side).■■ Extremely reduced maintenance, thanks to the reliability of the LEDs: calculated MTBF of 56,000 hours at 6.6A.■■ The traffic efficiency and the availability of the taxiways are considerably increased thanks to the reduction in access

required for maintenance. Optimum and homogenous light distribution along the lights installed on the same portion of taxiway.

■■ The LED emission directly ensures the correct colour. No energy losses or colour shifts due to the absence of colour filters.

■■ Connection and operation are fully compatible with the classic airfield lighting series circuits. There is no need to replace the CCRs, series transformers or cables, and the lights are fully dimmable like a traditional halogen light.

■■ Optionally, failure of LEDs can be monitored similarly to tungsten halogen lights.

■■ Even with the very low energy consumption, no problem can occur with any FAA-compliant 6.6 A series transformer up to 300 W (100 W in case of monitoring option).

■■ Full compatibility with F-range and TLP lights allow for a low cost and progressive evolution of the airfield lighting toward a new, LED-based technology.

■■ For new installations, low power demand means low installed load, smaller CCRs and transformers, etc. Substantial savings on installation are guaranteed.

■■ Very low working temperature, ensuring a long life of the gaskets as well as slower chemical degradation reactions.

■■ Galvanic separation from the series transformer, protecting the electronics against over voltage.■■ When turned on, light rise time is negligible. In case of a stop bar, it is highly important to communicate without delay

the interdiction of access to the runway to the pilot to avoid any risk of collision. LED lights offer a short predictable and constant response time over the whole brightness range.

Several years of field experience by ADB with LEDs in an extremely adverse environment are a guarantee for the benefits of the LED lights. Patent granted in various countries.

■■ Full range of uni- or bi-directional, optionally switchable 8” dia. inset lights covering all taxiway applications.

■■ Extensive use of aluminium alloys reduces fixture weight for ease of handling in the field and in the workshop.

■■ Only 1 mm of window below the pavement level, for sustained optimal light output under heavy rainfall.

■■ Smooth outer surface of light cover avoids tyre damage.■■ Double watertightness barrier.■■ Designed and built with simplicity and ease of maintenance in mind.■■ Minimal number of parts due to multifunctional components.■■ The modular design allows a quick change of the components and hence an

easy field customisation according to the application.■■ Prisms are clamped to the cover via a multiple contact points gasket by means of a multifunctional LED holder.

This makes prism replacement by airport maintenance staff fast and easy. Neither sealing compound nor resin is required.

■■ No optical adjustment required after replacement of the LEDs or the prism.■■ Standard adapter rings for installation on 12” FAA deep or shallow bases.■■ Specific rings available to fit mounting bases and seating rings to other

standards.■■ Installation jig and removal tool are available.■■ Plug for gas tightness testing of fixture after service/maintenance.■■ Environment friendly lighting fixtures (no cadmium plating).■■ Optionally, LED lights can be equipped with an internal monitoring function

of the individual light source. In case of a defect, the LED light automatically disconnects from the secondary side of the lamp transformer, resulting in an open circuit condition. Therefore external lamp fault detection devices of Constant Current Regulators and Individual Lamp Control and Monitoring Systems (ILCMS) can be used to monitor failed lights.

Electrical Supply6.6 A through one or two series transformer(s) (cat. leaflet A.06.110). LTS/LTC lights have been designed to work with any FAA compliant transformer up to 300 W without affecting the performances or the lifetime of the light or the transformer.

Installation1) On a shallow base (Fig. 7) This method is used in existing pavements. The 8” or 12” dia. base is secured in the pavement by means of resin.

Correct positioning and levelling are obtained with a jig with sighting telescope. Wires between the light and the series transformer are installed in saw cuts in the pavement filled with resin. Mounting on existing or new, larger diameter bases, is made possible by means of dedicated adapter rings.

2) On a FAA L-868 size B steel base (Fig. 8) This method of installation is used when building new or resurfacing existing taxiways. The 8” dia. LTS or LTC

light is mounted in an 8” to 12” dia. adapter ring bolted on the base. The bases are interconnected by means of conduits protecting the cables. The series transformer is installed under the light or better, in a separate pit. See catalogue leaflet A.05.120.

For detailed information, please refer to the mounting instructions supplied with the fittings. ADB’s technical team is at the disposal of users and contractors to provide guidance and advice in order to help

solving any particular installation problem.
