J AMES H OFFMEIER T HE E XODUS FROM E GYPT IN THE L IGHT OF R ECENT A RCHAEOLOGICAL AND G EOLOGICAL W ORK IN N ORTH S INAI James Hoffmeier is an Egyptologist and Archaeologist who currently teaches Old Testament and Ancient Near Eastern History and Archaeology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Hoffmeier lived in Egypt from birth until the age of sixteen and later went to Wheaton College to earn his Bachelor of Arts. He completed both his Masters and Doctorate degrees at the University of Toronto. From 1980 to 1999, Hoffmeier served as a professor of Archaeology and the Old Testament at Wheaton College and became the chairman of Wheaton’s Department of Biblical, Theological, Religious and Archaeological Studies in 1992. In addition to his teaching career, Hoffmeier recently directed the North Sinai Archaeological Project (1999-2008), which focused on the relationship between Egypt’s frontier during the New Kingdom and the Israelite exodus from Egypt. Hoffmeier has appeared in and consulted for TV programs for Discovery, History and Learning Channels and National Geographic. He has not only published his work in leading reference books and journals such as Oxford Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt and the Journal of Egyptian Archaeology, but also authored several prominent books that include: Israel in Egypt: The Evidence for the Authenticity of the Exodus Tradition (Oxford 1997), Ancient Israel in Sinai: The Evidence for the Authenticity of the Wilderness Tradition (Oxford 2005) and The Archaeology of the Bible (Lion 2008).
