While there can not be any fixed designmethodology for all situations and all

designers, there are some guidelinesthat, if followed, would yield areasonable answer.

Architectural Design needs to be seen as

    a process or a programme.

Architectural programming can be seenas executing an architectural

programme. An architectural programme is a set of

requirements that need to be satisfiedunder specific contexts.

The different requirements are finallymanifest in the different spatial units that

    are designed for different envisagedactivities.

The different situations and contexts willbe related to Time, Place and Man.

    The Process: Analysis and Synthesis

Each component needs detailed analysis as anindependent entity and then need to besynthesized with the other.

The stage of synthesis may entail reanalysis of thecomponent for appropriate merger.

This thus becomes a cycle. Part to whole

Each part needs to be designed and then theparts locked in a whole under a concept. Theprocess will need redesign of parts when these do

not fit the whole. This also becomes a part to whole to part to whole

    cycle.

Analyzing all facets of the problem -functional, physical and contextual and

the intangibles and then resolving themin a workable whole under a strongphilosophical concept will producegood architecture.
