Lebanon’s Biggest Cross

On September 13th, the eve of the Cross Feast, Lebanon celebrates the lighted biggest cross in the world, the cross of all people that will be blessed during a cere-mony at Kanat Bakich- Baskinta after 3 years of work. With the divine Providence, the French Brothers Francois and Jesus Ibanez and the founders of the Land of God (Terre de Dieu) Association, began their project and planted in the whole world about 7 thousand and 308 crosses, and about 90 in Lebanon.

Today, we follow up again this new but the biggest step of this project: “the biggest cross of all people” all around the world.

With the Divine Providence, they met Fr. Farid Doumit, the Superior of St Joseph Convent in Baskinta who showed them the land of St Joseph Church where the cross of all people will be raised.

The cross of French steel is 73. 80 m long, equal to 1/10 of the Calvary Mount reaching 738m, and is 73m wide. It is elevated on a 8m base that is coated by 500m3 of cement. On its sides, the cross can contain 300 persons in a distance of 100m high and 12m wide. Protestant Group in Florida Launches “Koran Burning Day”

and then declines

In its communiqué, the Pontifical Coun-cil for Interrelig-ious Dialogue expressed its “deep concern”

regarding the proposal of Terry Jones, Pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida who said that he wants to publicly burn Koran copies on Saturday’s anniversary of Septem-ber 11. The Pontifical Council stated that these “deplorable acts of violence, in fact, cannot be counteracted by an outrageous and grave gesture against a book considered sacred by a religious community. Each religion, with its respective sa-cred books, places of worship and symbols, has the right to respect and protection. The dignity of peo-ple and their free choices concerning religion should be respected.” Furthermore, all presidents, the Christian and Muslim authorities condemned unanimously this dangerous and extremist act that is contradicting the principles of the monotheistic religions and the logic of dialogue among civiliza-tions and cultures, and called to dialogue that is the better solution of all conflicts.

Also in this regard, Archbishop Cyril Bustros of the Melkite Catholic Newton Eparchy condemned the burning of Koran copies mention-ing that the Pastor’s plans are a violation of the American values and the Bible. H.G. added that “the Church looks with esteem and respect upon the Muslims. Any inten-tional damage or show of disrespect to the Koran is deeply offensive. To burn copies of the Koran is an act of utmost disrespect and goes against the teach-ing of Our Lord Jesus Christ”. Then, Archbishop Cyril wondered if Reverend Pastor Jones intends to draw back the civilized world to the era of barbarism.

As for Pastor Terry Jones, he declared that the project of burning copies of Koran in the week-end at Gainseville- Florida is canceled, con-firmed that the group behind the building of the mosque near the Commercial Center in New York will relocate the mosque. This was denied by the organizers. It is important to note that the group presided over by Jones has made previous strange initiatives such as T-shirt bearing the inscription “Islam comes from devil”, and Jones wrote in his personal register: “Ten reasons to burn the Ko-ran”.
