The School of Engineering at Athlone Institute of Technology is hosting dedicated workshops for students who are taking Construction Studies in the Leaving Certificate in summer 2015.

The construction studies workshops will offer students the opportunity to participate in laboratory demonstrations, take part in interactive Building Information Modelling (BIM) sessions, see physical examples of important construction details and learn more about renewable energy technologies and the thermal energy performance of building materials.

The students will also gain access to AIT’s cutting edge laboratories and facilities within the Department of Civil, Construction and Mineral Engineering. They will also meet with the academic and technical staff of the department who will be on hand to answer any queries in relation to the Construction Studies syllabus and growing education and employment opportunities within the construction and civil engineering sector.

Students will receive an information pack with relevant study information and guides to the topics covered in each session, along with experimental data generated, which may be used to compile laboratory reports.

What will be covered?• Concrete compression tests• Concrete slump and flow tests• Interactive Building Information Modelling (BIM)• Demonstration of renewable energy technologies• Thermal energy performance of building materials (including

U-Value calculation)• Water quality and treatment processes• Demonstrations of building surveying equipment• Tour of AIT labs and facilities• Overview of education and employment opportunities

Book your placeBookings for this workshop should be made through your Construction Studies teacher at school.

Civil and construction engineering courses at AIT• Higher Certificate in Civil Engineering (AL604)• Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (AL721)• Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Construction (AL720)
