WHY DO THE STARS CHANGE WITH THE SEASONS? UNIVERSE IN A BOX

In this Mystery, you will be introduced to the Earth’s orbital movement around the Sun, as a means of seeing why the constellations change. In the activity, Universe-in-a-Box, you will make a paper model that helps you visualize the Earth’s yearly orbit around the Sun. You can use this model to understand why some constellations are only visible during part of the year.

Common Good and how Christians work for the good of all. The Big Question: How can we work together to build a just and fair world? In this new topic, you will be learning about global justice issues and put your faith into action in order to build a just and fair world.

Fairness is about everyone having an equal share of something or being treated exactly the same. For instance, fairness would mean giving each person the same size slice of cake even if they have already had one. Justice is more than fairness. Justice might mean taking into consideration whether one person has had nothing else to eat that day and giving them a bigger slice of cake than someone who has just had dinner. Being just does not always mean being fair. Think of a time when you have been treated unfairly. Think about and add whether the incident you thought of was unjust or just and why. Questions 1. How and by who were you treated unfairly/unjustly? 2. Why do you think it happened? 3. How did the unfairness/injustice make you feel? 4. What could the person have done differently to make the incident fair/just for you? 5. Why do you think it is important to consider what is good for other people? ACTVITIES

1. Write and illustrate about times when you were treated in a just

way and when you have been treated unjustly. Explain your

feelings as well as explaining what happened. (Activity sheet

below)

2. ‘Treat other people as you would like to be treated yourself…’ How does this sentence make you feel? Why is it important to treat everyone with justice? What can you do to act justly and fairly at school and home?

Create a poster to explain. God asks us to live justly. Micah was a prophet of the Old Testament. A prophet is one who hears the word of God and passes it on with courage and conviction. He was teaching at about the same time as Isaiah when the people of God were having great trouble and difficulties. Micah’s message was one of hope for the future. He reminded God’s people about the importance of living justly. This is what he said: ‘This is what the Lord asks of you – that you act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with your God.’ Micah 6:8 Questions 1.What are the three key actions/attitudes of heart that the writer of Micah says the Lord asks of us? 2. Remembering what we have learnt so far, explain what you think it means to do what is just? 3. Who gives you tender love? And how do you do the same? 4. What do you think it means to walk humbly with God? 5. What are some current issues in the world where people need to be treated

with justice and love? ACTIVITY Common Good Poster activity below.

Design and Technology Geography History

DESIGN A ZOO Imagine you have your own zoo. Design a map of your zoo. What animals do you have? How much space will they have? Are they inside or outside? Is there anywhere for visitors to get food and drink? Look at the examples of maps below to help with ideas.

WHERE IN THE WORLD Look at the blank world map below. 1.Label each continent. 2.Find a wild animal that lives on each continent and draw it on the correct place on the map. 3.Think about a wild animal that you might find in a zoo or your favourite wild animal. Can you find out some more information about it? Where does it live? What does it eat? What does it look like? What size is it? Are there any other interesting facts about your wild animal? Use the information to create a fact file of your wild animal. Don’t forget to include a picture!

LOCAL AREA 1.Look at the history of your local town, village, city. What is your local area famous for? Are there any significant individuals from your local area? CLUE – ask grandparents if they remember what used to be where Home Bargains is now? It is linked to a very famous actor, originally from Consett! 2.Compare and contrast how your local area has changed over time. Can you create a poster or collage to show the changes?

Art PSHE&C In the World…

Animal Silhouettes 29 June 2020 - 19 July 2020 is Children's Art Week. Each week has a different theme: This week Week 1, is: The Natural World With this theme in mind, create some wild animal silhouettes! ( A silhouette is an image of something that is represented as a solid shape or single colour so that we only see the outline.) Think about: •Which animals will you draw? •Are the silhouettes of some animals easier to create than others? Why? E.g. those with distinct features such as a trunk may be more recognisable. •What size will your silhouettes be? If they are too small, will they be tricky to cut out or recognise? Draw your silhouettes. – check out the examples below. Use your silhouettes to make a picture.

Well Being

It is important, especially at this time, that we look after our own well being. Our well being is staying healthy and happy. Have a look at the activities I have found. There are seven – one a day for a week or you might decide to do just a couple. Either way I would love to see what you achieve. [email protected]
