Co-Chairs

Lana and Cllr John Fahy chaired the meeting.

1. Introductions and Apologies

Lana welcomed everyone to the meeting and said thank

you for coming. Everyone introduced themselves.

2. Minutes of the last meeting

We looked at the minutes of the last meeting

to make sure they were right and to make

sure jobs had been done.

John A to give an update about personal budgets in

the choice and control feedback.

Cllr Fahy said the meeting at The Heritage Centre

had been successful.

Cllr Fahy told everyone about the urgent care

consultation happening at the moment.

Jobs to do and who will do them

Alun to send consultation dates to Luke.

3. Feedback about the 5 priorities and the

work groups

Choice and Control

Lana said she ran a workshop at the Citizen

Forum about choice and control. People

played a game called My Life My budget

and then Lana asked people questions.

John A talked about how CLDT check personal budgets

are being used in the right way. A support planner goes

out to meet families and the plan is sent back to the CLDT.

There is also an annual review where they check what is

being spent.

John A gave out a sheet with the latest

figures of how many people have a

personal budget and talked everyone

through it.

Health

Debbie and John said that there was a Big Health Check

Up Day on 8th October to help complete the Joint health

and social care self assessment.

Debbie said that the Health Quality Checkers

did a presentation at the GP Forum at

Charlton House about the work they will be

doing. Alun said that there were lots of GPs

and Practice nurses at the GP Forum so now lots of people

know about it.

John C talked about the Health Forum the MPs ran on 30th

October.

Cllr Fahy asked if there is a Learning

Disability Champion at the Queen

Elizabeth hospital as this had come up at

the Big Check Up Day at the Heritage Centre.

Alun said that the Queen Elizabeth is now part of Lewisham

and Greenwich NHS Trust and he has talked to Oxleas

about finding out how many people with a learning

disability use A&E and the problems there are.

John A said that there is a new Safeguarding lead at

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust who he will be meeting

with Tricia Pereira from the Councils Safeguarding Team.

Moving On

Carrie-Ann said she was asked at the last meeting to do a

proposal and budget for her idea of a Moving On Forum

which she sent to the council.

Carrie-Ann also said that the MPs will be doing an MP

Surgery at Shooters Hill College or Charlton Park Academy

in the new year.

John F said that the Learning Disability

Transitions Pilot had celebrated its first

anniversary. The have put together a report

to send to managers about how it has been

going.

John F also said there will soon be a nurse involved with

the team who will be based at CLDT and there are lots of

changes at the moment to do with Autism.

Jobs

Jason said that the Employment Pilot had been set up to

try and get people with a learning disability jobs within the

council. It had lots of different people at the meetings

including GllaB and Greenwich Community College.

Jason said he thinks that the meetings

should become bigger and be a Jobs

Sub Group. This would help to move

things forward in supporting people into work.

Cllr Fahy said IKEA will be opening a store on the

Greenwich Peninsula which will bring more job

opportunities.

Housing

Jason said there wasn’t much to add to the update given

at the last meeting.

There have been a few issues but Jason will be going to a

meeting to discuss them. They still hope to use the

Abbeywood site and still hope that in a year and a half

there will be lots more housing options for people with a

learning disability in Greenwich and that people who

want to move back to Greenwich can do.

4. MP Updates

What the MPs have been

doing since the last

meeting:

Carrie-Ann said the MPs did a Surgery at

Turning Pages in October.

Lana said she went to a TFL Big Day to

talk about transport and the travel

mentoring team.

Lorraine talked about the London Big

Check up event some of the MPs went

to.

Debbie talked about the London

Regional Forum.

Citizen Forum Feedback

Debbie and Lana talked about the Citizen

Forum they chaired on 4th September 2013.

People could talk about:

Choice and Control

Transport

Easy Read Information

The Citizen Forum meetings

Lorraine and Carrie-Ann talked about the

Citizen Forum they chaired on 26th November

2013.

People could talk about:

Activities

Keeping Safe

Staff

The Citizen Forum meetings

Cllr Fahy asked the MPs to give action points that they

would like the council to follow up on.

Jobs to do and who will do them

MPs to write down action points for the Partnership

Board based on what is said at the Citizen Forums.

Cllr Fahy also said it would be good to talk to the Council

communication department about websites.

5. Carers Report

Avril said there are 3 exciting projects

happening:

Hadlow College equestrian centre at Shooters Hill are

trying to get courses running for students in

September and they will have good opportunities for

volunteering and work experience.

Hadlow college will also run courses in horticulture.

(Gardening)

A Community Cycling Hub at Corelli College.

6. Transport

Robert talked about the Transport

Consultation. There is now a contract

with GS Plus who provide the transport

which says:

Peoples safety and comfort is important.

Greenwich Council should receive regular

information.

Customer service keeps getting better.

2 out of 3 people get a phone call when their bus is

ready.

Routes need to be worked out by postcode.

Make sure journeys are short.

There should be spare buses in case one breaks

down.

This is what Greenwich Council wants to see happen:

People who use transport are comfortable

More people are happy with the service

People expect a good service

Journeys are quicker and shorter

Smaller buses to provide better comfort

7. Keeping People Safe

Janet said there is a new Service User

Involvement Project that has just started.

It will help stop safeguarding incidents and

abuse.

There is a new Service User Involvement Officer who will

be meeting with MPs soon. The idea is to set up a

Safeguarding Adults Service User Forum.

The project will run for 6 months but may be extended.

8. The Day Opportunities Review

Bernard gave an update of the

Day Opportunities review.

The idea is to make the service more modern. One of the

main buildings will close and smaller venues opened in the

community. A report has been given to the council to

decide which building closes.

New venues will be suitable for people with

complex needs and venues that are

already used will get new equipment.

Staff have been asked if they would like to work evenings

and weekends and lots have said yes.

Day Opportunities are working with GLL to do healthy

walks and adapted cycling and will be setting up a

drama group with Shooters Hill School of Arts.

Cllr Fahy said the Day Review Report will go to the cabinet

meeting on the 11th December.

9. Relationships

A practice guidance has been written about

supporting people with a learning disability

with Sex, Sexuality, Sexual Identity and Sexual

Behaviours. Jason recommended that

everyone should read it before the next meeting where it

will be talked about more.

Luke and John C asked for it to be made easy read.

Jobs to do and who will do them

Jason to talk about the practice guidance at the

next meeting.
