An Update on Peak Day Pricing
Peak Day Pricing (PDP)—PG&E’s newpricing plan that encourages customersto reduce energy consumption duringperiods of greatest demand—isapproaching another milestone:Starting February 2011, eligible LargeAgricultural customers (greater than200 kW demand) currently on a Time-Of-Use (TOU) plan will transitionto PDP.
With Peak Day Pricing, participants will see increased charges during peakhours (weekdays from 2 - 6 p.m.) on a limited number of “Event Days”throughout the year. In exchange, theywill receive credits for all usage
throughout the summer. Customerswho can reduce their load during thesehigh cost periods, or shift load fromhigher cost to lower cost periods, maybenefit on this plan.
This pricing plan is part of a statewideinitiative led by the California PublicUtilities Commission (CPUC) to reducepeak energy demand, which helps tostabilize the energy grid and reducesenergy-related greenhouse gases.Customers will transition to PDPdepending on business type and certaineligibility criteria; however all businessand residential customers willultimately transition to PDP, unless
they choose to opt out to an alternateTOU plan.
Small- and medium-sized businesscustomers with demand less than200kW will transition to PDP inNovember 2011. As a result of a recentCPUC decision, Small Agriculturalcustomers—initially scheduled totransition to TOU plans in February2011—will transition in February 2012.
For more information about PDP,customer transitions, and to sign up for a local workshop, please visitwww.pge.com/pdp.
