Oil Slick

• Oil slick: When oil initially spills into the ocean it accumulates on top of the water. This is because oil is less dense than water and it floats on top.

• Create your “oil slick” in the cup.• Observe what happens. Describe and draw

your results on your lab sheet.• What type of mixture is this an example of?

• Oil Mousse: When oil is unable to mix or spread out due to the environment it becomes clumpy and gooey like chocolate mousse.
