Why
• High quality content is available for little or no cost
• Increased student access to the devices enabling them to get online
• Technology has matured to the point where creating learning opportunities is a plug and play reality
Goals
• Set up a low cost way to offer distance education options to Aspire programs
• Create a digital sandbox to try different types of resources
• Courses available through NROC membership
• Online lessons developed by Aspire teachers
• OER courses

• English content designed to help students meet basic college entrance requirements.

What is it?• NROC English is an interactive multimedia
course, developed by the NROC Project, designed to help learners meet the needs of basic college entrance requirements
• Course consists of 10 units integrating reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary building, grammar and punctuation, and usage skills.

How can it be used?• Teachers can use the course in a variety of

Ohio Aspire Science Lessons
Pilot 2015
Learner Mastery Model, which assigns a fixed
number of proxy hours of credit based on the learner
mastery (passing a test) on the content of each
lesson. Learners work with the curriculum and
materials and when they feel they have mastered the
material, take a test. A high percentage of correct
answers (typically 70%-80%) earns the credit hours
attached to the material.
