Term: A desktop terminal is a VDT, FDT or a PC running PCAccess.

Purpose of this Workbook This is a tutorial workbook that will show you how to use the Radio Frequency (RF) Terminal. It is designed to interact with data in the Triad Training Universe, otherwise known as the Training Mode. In this workbook you will find a series of exercises that walk you through the various functions and features available on the RF Terminal. The RF Terminal is, in many ways, just like a regular terminal. Everything that you do on the RF Terminal immediately updates the data stored in the Triad Eagle system. In other ways, however, the RF Terminal is very different from a regular terminal. 1. The obvious difference is that the RF Terminal does not need a cable attached to it in order to

communicate with the Eagle system. The signals sent by the RF Terminal are received by one or more antennae in your store. From there the signal travels via special cable to the Eagle system.

2. Another difference between an RF Terminal and a regular desktop terminal is the applications that can run on the RF Terminal. Currently, the applications that are available for the RF Terminal include: • UPC Maintenance—This application allows you to link bar codes to their corresponding

SKU numbers. • Shelf Manager—This application actually contains several mini-applications defined by

the different modes within Shelf Manager. • Receiving—This application allows receiving by scanning bar codes.

All of these applications are explored in the exercises contained in this workbook.

Who should use this workbook The people who will receive the biggest benefit from this workbook include: • store managers • inventory control specialists • purchasing managers • receiving managers • new employees that need to know about the RF applications • anyone in your store that is in charge of training new employees

Using the Training Mode All of the exercises in this workbook are built to interact with data that is pre-loaded into every Triad Eagle system. This data exists in the Training Universe or Training Mode. Please make sure that you understand how to use the Training Mode. If you are in doubt or cannot access the Training Mode, talk with your manager.

To Enter the Training Mode perform the following steps at a desktop terminal: If the function menu is displayed on the screen, type QUIT and press <Enter>. At the LOGIN prompt, type TRAIN and press <Enter>. Enter your name and password at the SIGNON screen. If you have trouble on this screen, contact your manager. Carefully read what is displayed on the screen. If this is the first time anyone from your store has ever used the Training Mode, you may see a message about needing to install the Training files.

Tip: If you wish to reinitialize the training database to repeat the FR Terminal exercises, you must do so from a desktop terminal.

If you wish to continue, type YES and press <Enter>. If, however, the message asks if you wish to re-initialize the training files, think carefully. If you are beginning your training with the RF Terminal, it is probably right to initialize the files. This resets the data “back to the beginning.” Once again, be sure to check with your manager if you have any doubts.

Note: Do not be confused with Logging into the Training Mode by typing TRAIN at the login prompt with “putting a terminal in POS training” through function MTR. MTR only places one terminal in POS training while still using your store’s data. Logging in as TRAIN accesses the Training Mode database.

Using the Training Mode with the RF Terminal You enter the Training Mode on the RF Terminal just as you do on a desktop terminal, by typing TRAIN at the Login prompt. There are two differences, however: 1. You will not see the message about initializing the training data files. If you wish to reset the

training data, you must login as TRAIN on a desktop terminal and answer YES to the question about initializing the files.

2. You cannot tell, on the RF Terminal, whether or not you are in the Training Mode. You should exit the RF Applications after each session and login as TRAIN when you are ready to move on to the next training exercise.

Basic RF Operations

Power on the RF Terminal If the RF Terminal screen is blank, press <PWR>.

Connect to the Eagle system Press <Enter> to connect to your Eagle system via RF.

Exercise #6: A Little Bit of Everything Using the File Maintenance Mode In exercises 2 through 5, you used the RF Shelf manager in the PRICE CHECK MODE, PIP MODE, LOCATION MODE, and PURCHASE MODE. These modes allowed you to access only certain fields. For example: PURCHASE MODE only allowed access to the New Order Quantity field, while LOCATION MODE allowed access only to the Location field. PIP MODE was a bit broader in that you were given access to the Quantity Field and the Location field. In FILE MAINT MODE, you have access to all 9 of the fields that can be changed using the RF Shelf Manager. Most of the changes are processed through function FIL using the Flex Name RFSHELF. However, changes to Retail Price or Replacement Cost are passed though function IPC, and depending on how you set the RF Shelf Manager constants, changes to quantity may be processed through function PIP.

In this section you will: • make changes to various inventory fields • edit and finalize those changes using the appropriate report

Power on the RF Terminal, connect to the Eagle, Login to the Training Mode and Signon the terminal If you need assistance with this process, please refer to Basic RF Operations.

Enter the RF Shelf Manager Highlight SHELF MANAGER on the RF Terminal and press <Enter>.

Enter the File Maintenance Mode To enter the location mode perform the following steps: 1. At FILE MAINT MODE, type Y and press <Enter>.

Set the Shelf Manager Constants for the File Maintenance Mode To set the Shelf manager Constants for the File Maintenance Mode, perform the following steps: 1. At ADD QOH TO PIP type Y.

This will process tile Quantity on Hand (QOH) changes through the physical inventory applications. In order to process QOH changes through the physical inventory applications, you need to have Advanced Inventory. If you have Classic Inventory or for any other reason wish to process QOH changes through function FIL, answer this question N.

2. At ADD UPC CODE, type Y or P and press <Enter>.

This allows you to link unassigned UPC codes to items as you perform the file maintenance. Type Y if you always want to link the UPC. Type P if you want the terminal to prompt you whether or not to link the UPC.

3. At PRINT LABELS, type Y, P, or A, if you have a printer attached to the RF Terminal. Type N if you do not have a printer attached.

Refer to the table on page 23 of the RF User‘s Guide to see how each of these options affects the printing of a bin label.

Final Review The 7 exercises contained in this workbook walked you through the applications available on the RF Terminal. All of the exercises are designed to interact with the Triad Training Mode data. This allows you to experiment with the applications without damaging the data specific to your store. Now that you have completed these exercises in the Training Mode, Login to the “live” data by typing M at the Login prompt on the RF Terminal and try one of the applications.

There are some features that were not explored in the preceding seven exercises. You can read more about the RF Terminal applications in the RF User’s Guide. You can always return to the Training Mode and experiment with those features.
