GOALS AND GENERAL CONTENT
As a beginner you will learn some familiar andeveryday expressions and simple statements forbasic needs, such as introducing yourself orsomeone else and how to ask personalquestions (living area, relationships, family…).You will learn how to respond to the same sortof questions. You will be able to interact andcommunicate in a simple way in order to dealwith everyday basic situations.
You will learn how to talk about yourself, localgeography, shopping, education and work.You will be able to communicate in situationsthat require a direct exchange of informationon familiar and routine matters. At the end ofthis level you will be able to describe in simpleterms aspects of your background andimmediate environment. You will also acquireconversational language skills to deal withmost social, work or travelling needs.
You will obtain a broader range of languageallowing you to communicate morespontaneously on a wide range of topics usingcolloquial or formal French as appropriate. Youwill be able to speak on familiar subjects and inyour area of interest and to briefly articulatereasons for or explanations about projects orideas. You will also be able to describeexperiences and events, hopes and ambitions.
This level is about more complex languageinvolving both concrete and abstract subjects.You will learn how to put arguments for andagainst and to persuade. You will be starting tocommunicate easily and able to hold a goodconversation with a native speaker. You will beable to produce clear, detailed text on a widerange of subjects and explain a viewpoint on atopical issue.
Close to mother tongue standard, you willkeep up your French and use language flexiblyand effectively for social purposes. You willread French literature, talk about currentaffairs and acquire a deeper knowledge of thelanguage. You will be able to express yourselfprecisely through understanding nuance,differences between language registers andyou will be able to summarise informationfrom different spoken and written sources.

The European Council has setlevels which have now becomea reference as far as learningand teaching a language areconcerned.
Each of the levels shown oppositecover the main competences astudent will learn. An initial freeassessment gives you theopportunity to discuss your needsand objectives and allows us torecommend the most appropriatecourse.
We have created learningcontents that match each leveldescribed in the CEFR, so there isa link between our teaching andlearning resources and thelanguage competences you wishto acquire.
You will need to attend several ofour courses to complete a CEFRlevel. For example, to completeCEFR level A2, you will need tocomplete our levels 1C to 2B.

General of the Alliance Française in the UK,
originally wrote this book in 1943, one of the
early biographies of de Gaulle, for the Alliance
Française and for British teenagers. The authors
of the two presentations to her narrative are
respectively a Français Libre, later politician
and historian, and the director of Alliance
Française de Londres. This edition contains
the recently recovered original typescript for
the book and handwritten annotations by
Général de Gaulle himself.

Payment:Payment must be received in full before attendingclasses; a course place is not confirmed until payment isreceived. Alliance Française de Londres does not acceptpayment by instalments.
Cancellation:Alliance Française de Londres does not acceptresponsibility for changes in student circumstances thatmay prevent them from attending their courses. Feescan neither be refunded nor held in credit for a futurecourse if you withdraw after a course has started. Therewill be no partial refund for classes not attended by thestudent for whatever reason. However, you may onlycancel if notice is given in writing no later than one daybefore the course starts. The class fee will then berefunded minus a £75 administrative fee.
The Alliance Française de Londres may cancel a coursebefore it starts when there are insufficient studentnumbers. In that case only, fees will be refunded in full.However, if possible we may offer a modified scheduleinstead of cancelling.
If the Alliance Française de Londres has to cancel a courseafter it has started due to circumstances beyond itscontrol, then fees will be refunded pro rata.
Postponement: You may only postpone taking a course if notice is given inwriting no later than one day before the course starts. A£50 administrative fee will apply. No credit or refund willbe given on or after the day a course has started.

Adapted to the realities of the business world, theDiplôme de Français Professionnel is forprofessionals who wish to demonstrate their levelof French in a professional context. Our courseswill prepare you to use French at work. Weoffer several levels in accordance with theCommon European Framework of Reference forLanguages to meet your specific needs (generalFrench for work, business or judicial French,French for international relations etc.).
An interview with a free assessment test at ourschool will allow us to identify the course and thediploma the most suitable for your particularcircumstances. The dates for the exam sessions willbe scheduled at a later stage based on enrolments.

The TEF (Test d’Evaluation de Francais) providescandidates with a performance score similar to theTOEFL.
It is recognised by employers, universities andbusiness schools such as the INSEAD.
The TEFaQ (Test d’Evaluation de Francais adapté auQuébec) is required by the Ministry of Immigrationin Quebec (Ministère de l’Immigration et desCommunautés culturelles - MICC).
The TEF Canada is now the only test recognisedby Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) asproof of French language proficiency for peoplewishing to emigrate to Canada or to get CanadianCitizenship.
For these three tests, a good knowledge of thelanguage is necessary as the level required hasbeen increased, e.g. level B2 (see our levels charton page 4).
