What is the Community Toilet Scheme?The Community Toilet Scheme (CTS) allows thecouncil to work with local businesses to improve theprovision of toilet facilities for the public. It providescleaner, safer and more accessible toilets in the towncentres of East Herts.
How the scheme works:The council and selected local businesses sign anagreement to allow the public to use their toiletsduring normal opening hours and without the need tomake a purchase.
The council will endeavour to find businesses whichare DDA compliant to increase provision for everyone.
Street signs: These signs display the name ofthe CTS member and the facilities available.
Window signs: Participating CTS membersdisplay one of these in their windows to identify thetype of facilities available.
Expected Standards and Inspection:As part of the Community Toilet Scheme agreement, thebusiness agrees to maintain the toilets in a clean andhygienic condition, with adequate toilet rolls, soap andhand dryer / hand towels.
The council will undertake regular inspections of alltoilets in the scheme. In addition, there may be random“spot checks” at the council’s discretion.
