This programme aims to equip students with a thorough understanding
of the basic tools and models of economic analysis. Students will
be expected to understand analytical tools such as differential
calculus, probability theory and statistics as well as acquiring
the skills to understand models such as perfect competition and
growth theory. At the end of their studies, students will be able
to apply economic theory in a range of contexts, including
international trade, European integration, health economics,
banking and finance.
baCHELoR of sCiEnCE in managEmEnt
Graduates will be able to enter the business world in junior
managerial positions. Students will have mastered skills such as
accounting, law, statistics and marketing as well as reaching
intellectual maturity through learning independent thinking,
analysis and critical evaluation. Students are also expected to
develop high ethical standards and be able to work with people from
different backgrounds.

This two sided programme trains specialists in information

The Department of Information Systems is at the cutting edge of
research in management of information technology, information
systems engineering and design, which are major issues for most
companies. Research in knowledge management, security and auditing,
neuro- science and bio-inspired systems applied to economy, logic
and game theory, enterprise architecture and distributed systems,
project and change management, e-business and system design are
just some of the areas studied in this department.

The teaching at the Department of Marketing covers a wide array of
subjects in order to best reflect the many dimensions of marketing.
In its research, this department looks particularly at the role of
the consumer from an international and cross-cultural perspective
and also the implementation of marketing policies which are ethical
and useful to society.

Research in the Department of Operations looks at how to optimise
production flows in for example the conception of a new product or
the management of a supply chain. This department looks at
operational solutions to improve production strategy, reduce
production delays and thus have a direct impact on a company’s
competitiveness and bottom line.

One of the youngest disciplines represented at HEC Lausanne, the
Department of Organisational Behaviour conducts leading research on
the behaviour and decisions of individuals and groups in
organisations. This advances knowledge that can help organisations
to improve their effectiveness and their stakeholders’
well-being.

This department examines how internal and external factors
contribute to policy making within a sector of activity or a
company. Ethics is strongly represented at HEC Lausanne and is a
core component of most teaching programmes. Research in this field
looks in particular at the impact of globalisation on corporate
social responsibility and the dynamic between companies, NGOs and
suppliers.

to the scientific rigour employed and the pertinence of its

The teaching and research in this department covers areas including
auditing, tax systems, management and cost control which are

HEC Lausanne is the only Swiss institution to offer a complete
programme in actuarial sciences, the mathematical and statistical
analysis of risk in the insurance and finance industries. One
example of ongoing research is “Enterprise Risk Management” which
creates models to evaluate the risks which companies face.

Covering Swiss, European and International Law, this department
teaches and conducts research in many different fields including
tax, competition and company law, intellectual property and

of Economics’ teaching and research is concentrated in the fields
of health, industrial, public, spatial, experimental and national
economics, theoretical and applied econometrics, finance and
