In a blink of an eye, my school years have come to an end. These past 5 years,i have learnt a lot of precious lessons in school from experience. I was very fortunate to be chosen as the head pre-

fect of the authoritative prefectorial board. Since I received my letter of appointment from the headmaster,i remind myself to do the best i can.Through my years of experience, I have a lot of

valuable lessons to share with you all.

To me,a leader is someone who does not inject fears into others but someone that is going to bring the whole team forward. You do not need to boss around for people to follow your orders. Don’t be stern but don’t be magnanimous too. Let your work speak for itself; don't fall into the trap of being the one who blows your horn the loudest. People are going to respect you for your capability and

naturally, they would follow and respect every decision you make.

Theodore Roosevelt once said: “People ask the difference between a leader and a boss. The leader leads, and the boss drives.”. When you are given authority, it means that you should guide your members in every step and lead them in every journey, no matter rain or shine. You are the

one that they should come to when they face problems and you are the one that should make diffi-cult decisions during the time of crisis.

Besides that, a leader needs to be close to their members. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. This is incredibly important in any workplace environment and

helps you to manage conflict and relationships. With that, mutual trust is easier to form. Mutual trust between leaders and members is very essential. The first job of a leader is to inspire trust. Most importantly, members need to have trust for each other. If everybody has mutual trust ,the whole

team will be able to perform well in synergy.

A leader is recognised as a dealer in confidence, one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way and, in addition, is good at the art of communication. Confidence is also the impor-

tant language of leadership and the pathway to self-efficacy. When a leader has no confidence, members can easily notice that and this creates a domino effect . Therefore causing detrimental effects on the whole team. This comes to a conclusion that a leader is someone that

should be brimming with confidence. However, be careful because confidence is a great trait, but it must be tempered with modesty.

As they say, : “Rome was not built in a day.”, leadership is the same thing too. Leadership is not something we are born with,it’s something we gain through experiences and lessons. We have to observe and remember every mistake we make, and turn those mistakes into the important ele-

ment that will make us a successful leader.
