An invitation...

I hear lots of people telling me about the ‘youth of today’. I am told that they are only interested in themselves, and, when it comes to free time—won’t lift

a finger to help others. However, that has not been my experience of teens! They are looking for something meaningful and are community minded if they

can see that their contribution is valued.

For some parents, Holiday times can be both stressful and expensive when it comes to ‘catering’ for their teenagers. St John’s North Ryde would love to

help by providing a best practice program which gives teenagers the opportunity to develop new skills, reach their potentials, serve their community and

learn more about Jesus.

The program is not-for-profit, and is only made possible through the generous donations and discounts from local businesses and many people volunteer-

ing their time. Over the last three years, 105 teenagers have trained through the program, and over 200 local primary kids have loved it!

Whilst there is a program cost of $120—this barely covers the costs of the Hoodie, Cap, 14

meals, 14 morning and afternoon teas, leaders party laser tag and bowling, and other pro-

gram costs.

You may be wondering if a church run program is for you? According to the Australian Bu-

reau of statistics (ABS), four out of five teens reading this brochure believe in God. We wel-

come anyone from any faith background participating in the leadership program with us.

Our aim is to help you make the next step in honouring Jesus. We ask all teens to agree to

our statement of partnership which you can read in the application form on our website.

Can I encourage you to make the most of NRG. But why wait till July? If you have just

moved into the suburb or don’t have any connection with a youth group, why not join with

us this week at church gatherings on Sunday 10am & 5pm, or Friday Children’s and youth

programs BLAST, 57 or Revolution. Each Friday afternoon there are 120 kids in Church run

programs on site.

You are welcome to contact me on 0403 812 782, or find out more at our website.

Our 2014 Program Theme is Spies! The Program is based on the Old Testament book of Exodus. We will discover how God rescued the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, and how God continues to rescue people today through Jesus. Our program contains gripping and imaginative storytelling, creative Bible engagement, craft and game ideas, re-lationship-building opportunities and invites children to get to know God. Mission Extra 1: God's mission Exodus 1 Mission 1: Undercover Exodus 2:1-10 Mission 2: Your mission should you choose to accept it Exodus 3:1-15 Mission 3: Mission Abort? Exodus 5:1- 21 (retold); 5:22 - 6:13 Mission 4: Mission Accomplished Exodus 7-10 retold; Exodus 11; Exodus 12:29-32,33-42 Mission 5: Escape! Exodus 14:1-29 Mission Extra 2: Mission debrief Exodus 15:1-18

Leader Expectations NRG is about learning in a safe positive community. Unfortunately, our school environments are not always like this. During the week leaders learn positive affirmation and the ‘put down’ is proactively dealt with. Leaders represent the church at all times during the program. This is to be reflected in modest attire, appropriate lan-guage, and a polite and courteous attitude towards other leaders, younger children and their parents. No inappropriate substance abuse (Smoking, Alcohol or non-prescription drugs) is permitted. Leaders are trained in ‘safe ministry’ expectations on appropriate interactions with younger children and peers. Social media is discouraged during program hours. No inappropriate access of electronic media is permitted onsite. Thanks to our past pro-active positive environment, we have had no team issues. However, should these expecta-tions be breached, church staff reserve the right to ask participants to leave the program.
