L’histoire!In 1628, the

Protestant city of La Rochelle was laid under siege by King Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu.

Richelieu blockaded the city for 13 months– this was known as the Siege of La Rochelle

Île de Ré• This island is a very

popular tourist attraction

• In Roman times, the Île de Ré consisted of three small islands, but overtime the space between them was filled in to make one island

• The island is accessible by bridge from La Rochelle, or by boat
