A Message from RDPS Administration Our month of March has quickly approached us and we want to remind the community that it is a shorter month

ahead. It will be busy, productive and filled with many events, such as workshops, trips, Lice checks, and a spirit day.

Please take a look at our March calendar. We will also host a parent engagement evening by Colleen Kamps, who will

speak about different Mental Health topics. Please see the attached flyer for more details.

We recently had our Winit Assembly to showcase our wonderful student talent. Our Student Council members created

a lovely slide show of memories, our Eco Club, Dance Clubs and Music department ensembles presented at the

assembly. In addition, we recognized many of our students through the distribution of our Winits. Students can

collect Winits for a variety of things such as for their involvement in school activities, volunteering, for their learning

skills and academic achievements. All students will receive a Winit certificate with their June report card. With over

805 students in our school, we are very proud of how they continue to show growth academically, socially and

emotionally. We thank our parent partners for their continued support of our school initiatives and programs.

At RDPS, we take pride in our outreach activities to support those in need through our food and toy drives for local

organizations. Recently, our grade 3s collected toys to donate to Sick Kids Hospital. Soon we will be having our kick off

assembly to raise money for an important global cause. We are reaching out to you for our school wide global

fundraiser: The Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative. This is an important initiative that is working to prevent the

use of child soldiers around the globe. This will be our last major fundraising initiative for the school year. This Dallaire

school wide initiative is working to end the cycle of recruiting children into armed groups and with your help we can

continue to make a positive difference. More information will be forthcoming about our upcoming Dance-a-thon

fundraiser. Your support of this cause will be greatly appreciated.

Our staff continues to be engaged in meaningful and professional learning about enhancing student critical thinking

skills, technology integration, equity, Mental Health topics and the implementation of our Board’s comprehensive

Math program. It is important that we continue to hone our practice to meet the needs of our student population.

We also thank our staff for offering various extra-curricular activities through our clubs, in the Arts, and athletics.

Finally, as we are in second term, please take the time to review with your child their next steps in setting both

academic and learning skill goals for improvement. We encourage students to set these goals and check in with

parents and teachers to achieve success. The final report card will be issued at the end of June.

Board News and School Information

A Message from our Vice Principal I have had a wonderful start as the Vice-Principal of our school. From the moment I walked through our building I instantly felt our school's welcoming positive culture and climate. I am proud to be a part of our great French Immersion community of students, staff, parent volunteers, and families; who value being our partners in education. Romeo Dallaire's personality stands above the rest. I feel cared for and respected, and I look forward to continuing to embrace our school’s mission to foster student achievement and well-being. Romeo Dallaire est une école exceptionnelle!

Contribute to Strategic Planning at YRDSB - Upcoming Town Halls

York Region District School Board is revisioning its Multi-Year Plan (MYP) and Board Improvement Plan for Student

Achievement and Well-being. The Board of Trustees is responsible for setting the strategic direction of public education

in York Region public schools. The MYP incorporates the direction established by the Trustees with feedback received

from all stakeholders, and will inform decision making at the Board in the years to come. Town halls will be taking place

across the region and feedback collected from families and community members will inform the creation of a new MYP.

Your voice is important and your input and feedback will help York Region District School Board support student

achievement and well-being. There will also be other opportunities, including a survey available in April, to share your

thoughts if you are unable to attend a town hall.

HOME-SCHOOL-LIFE BALANCE

Children experiencing high levels of stress, anxiety, depression,

sleep and eating struggles often find it difficult to cope with these

challenges and the demands of home, school, and life. This 2-part

workshop series is aimed at providing caregivers with pertinent

information about these difficulties and learning how to build

resilience. At these workshops you will:

Gain an understanding of the impact of these difficulties and

what to look for.

Feel more confident in supporting a child in managing these

struggles.

“Children do not need us to shape them; they need us to respond to who they are…”

Lunchtime Supervisors Needed

During the lunchtime (12:55pm-1:55pm), our students are

supervised by lunchtime supervisors hired by the YRDSB and it is a

paid position. Many of the lunchtime supervisors are often

parents or other members of the community. At this time, we are

in need of supervisors who can work every day or just certain days

of the week as well as casual lunchtime supervisors. Casual

lunchtime supervisors are called when the regular supervisors are

not able to come to work. If you are interested in finding out

more information about this position, please call the school office.
