S: Hn ho. And, what is at the north side of Tin'nmn?
M: The Forbidden City. Ggng zi Tin'nmn de
bibin.
S: Very good!
S: Ok, let's look at the new things. The bin in nnbin or bibin
is the same
bin as in pngbin and other position words we've learnt. It means
'side'.
M: So, now say with me, On the north side, zi bibin, on the
south side zi nnbin, on the east side zi dngbin, and what is 'on
the west
side? Hn ho. zi xbin.
S: And I said, shnme dfang? DI FANG dfang,
remember, means 'place'. What place, shnme dfang?
M: Tiananmen is in the heart of Beijing. zhngxn, literally,
'middle heart', and it means 'center' or 'heart of'. Now say, In
the heart of
Beijing, zi Bijng de zhngxn.
S: We also heard the names of some famous buildings around
Tiananmen.
M: Like, literally 'front gate' and one of the large gates
remaining from the
old city wall.
