Advocacy and Awareness Enhance the public’s awareness, understanding and appreciation of the value of landscape architecture to Louisiana and its people. Support and protect the right to practice landscape architecture in Louisiana. Member Services and Support Foster professional growth through continuing education, networking and leadership development opportunities. Recognize, celebrate and promote the excellence of landscape architects and the diversity of the profession. Actively support and develop emerging professionals through chapter programming. Supporting the Profession Engage Louisiana State University students and faculty to sustain the future of the landscape architecture profession. Cultivate interest in landscape architecture and increase the profession’s diversity through career discovery. Governance & Management Provide transparent and accountable leadership through open communication with the membership. Efficient use of chapter resources based on member needs and priorities. Identify and invest in future leadership to ensure the viability of the chapter. Advocacy  and  Awareness  Strategic  Objective:  Enhance  the  public’s  awareness,  understanding  and  appreciation  of  the  value  of  

landscape  architecture  to  Louisiana  and  its  people.  Goal  1.  Increase  public  relations  initiatives.  

• Identify  public  relations  chair  • Create  chapter  speaker  bureau  • Document  chapter  activities  (photos)  • Craft  media  relations  plan  

o Increase  distribution  of  press  releases  • Hold  National  Landscape  Architecture  Month  (NLAM)  activities/events  (and  notify  national  

office)  • Encourage  members  to  submit  Year  of  Public  Service  (YPS)  projects  • Utilize  social  media  

o Link  to  practice  law  information  to  website  o Update  website  and  Facebook  

Goal  2.  Increase  landscape  architects  influence  on  boards,  committees  and  taskforces.  • Identify  opportunities  • Identify  appropriate  chapter  representative  

 Strategic  Objective:  Support  and  protect  the  right  to  practice  landscape  architecture  in  Louisiana.  Goal.  1.    Establish  a  chapter  Advocacy  committee.  

• Increase  advocacy  network  participation  o Distribute  member  alerts  

• Identify  legislative  issues  and  priorities  o Selection  boards  o Restraint  to  practice  (municipalities)  o Communicating  the  value  of  landscape  architects  to  state  agencies  

• Monitor  legislation  • Promote  legislative  successes  to  members  and  outside  parties  • Solicit  member  information  on  municipal  ordinances  related  to  the  defense  of  practice  • Identify  lobbyist  role  and  tasks  –  provide  to  Executive  Committee  • Identify  rules  and  regulations  that  need  updating/input  and  develop  strategies  to  address  

Goal  2.   Educate  decision  makers  on  the  role  of  landscape  architects  in  addressing  the  unique  needs  of  the  Louisiana  environment  and  culture.  

• Utilize  chapter  speaker  bureau  • Engage  municipalities  by  providing  topical  information  and  data  • Solicit  invitations  to  Louisiana  Municipal  Association  and  Louisiana  Police  Jury  Association  

meetings  • Identify  methods  to  engage  decision  makers  to  more  effectively  administer  rules  and  regulations  

to  increase  opportunities  for  landscape  architects  Goal  3.  Formalize  allied  collaborations.

• Organize  and  host  firm  crawl  • Offer  professional  practice  class  presentations  • Offer  informal  desk  critiques    • Host  portfolio  review  • Add  students  to  advocacy  network  • Utilize  students  volunteers  at  chapter  annual  meeting    • Provide  scholarships  to  chapter  annual  meeting  and  possible  ASLA  annual  meeting  • Bring  student  to  ASLA  advocacy  day  and  mid-­‐year  meeting  in  Washington  DC  • Host  graduating  senior  event
