SEASON 2015
REFLECTIONSEXHIBITIONSREFLECTIONS FROM THE FIRE
Longboat Key Center for the Arts will be collaborating with
the esteemed Habatat Galleries(MI) to present “Reflections
from the Fire” two extraordinary contemporary glass events.
In the Durante Gallery we will be presenting two dozen artists
representing 13 countries from North America, Europe,
Australia and Asia. Each artist has distinguished themselves
not only in their respective countries but throughout the
world. Every technique in glass will be represented, each
created with the unique vision coupled with consummate
skill. The exhibition provides an instant education into the
world of studio glass and a visual experience that will last
a life time!
Accompanying the Durante Gallery exhibition of international
glass art, we will be hosting the first Contemporary Glass
Auction to occur in Florida! This body of work was again
assembled by Habatat Galleries (MI) and has examples of
earlier work by many of the masters. This too is an international
event and will present historic works in the careers of many
of these noted artists. There will also be many surprises,
famous works that have just recently come on the market,
and special works revealing unique approaches to making
art! A catalogue for this event is available.
From its humble beginnings, in a garage in Toledo in
1962, Studio Glass has become a medium of astounding
versatility. In our Durante Gallery, you will see everything
from large castings to intricate work created over a torch.
Today there are an estimated 15,000 artists working
with glass. This exhibit is juried to reveal the innovators,
visionaries and historic figures in this field. Unique to
many exhibitions of this kind, most of these works will be
available for purchase.
FILM SCREENING AND LECTURE: My Glass OdysseyWednesday, February 4 3 - 5 pm
Follow John Waterman, writer and director, across the United States as he
meets glass artists and studio owners gleaning insights about their inspiration
and engagement in the creative process.

you may be using it in airports, cruise ships or subway cars. Also bring a soft
pencil and gum eraser. We will give you two brush pens that will help give your
work a professional look. All skill levels welcome.
Jack is a Signature Member of the Baltimore and Suncoast Watercolor Societies
and has taught plein air and studio classes for a number of years. He attended the

SCULPTUREINTRODUCTION TO FIGURATIVE SCULPTURE Instructor: Greg Marra
Wednesday, February 25 & Thursday, February 26
11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Bldg. 400, Studio B
$250
Figurative sculpture has been the traditional method of introducing students to
form, space, and proportion in sculpture. Students work from the model with clay,
creating sculpture from observation. We will be sculpting focusing on the gesture
of the human form. We will not have time to perfect detail but we have enough to
create a marquette or smaller model/sketch of what we would like to enlarge later.
This exercise is invaluable to a sculptor or those looking to explore the human
form in the 3rd dimension. Clay, armature and clay sculpting tools supplied.
Greg Marra, master sculptor, dedicates his life to the pursuit of classical historical
statuary to be honored in the United States and other countries. After receiving
a BFA in 1998 at The University of Hartford, he studied in The Tirolean region
of northern Italy. Upon returning, he extended his education to earn an MFA in
2001 at the New York Academy of Figurative Arts in Manhattan. After returning
to Europe and spending a total of three years in Austria, Greg came back to the
US once again, with a renewed sense of patriotism, which he incorporates in his
work. Greg is endorsed by congressman and senators from each state as well as
the Chase gallery.
