"the rich man also died, and was buried;and in hell [hades] he lift up his eyes,being in torments... Son, remember that

thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy goodthings, and likewise Lazarus evil things:but now he is comforted, and thou arttormented

[Both show hades as a place wherepunish-ment or reward is appliedimmediately before judgmentcorresponding to the life they led.ILB]

"NOW as to Hades, wherein the souls of...the righteous and the unrighteous are detained,is necessary to speak of it. Hades is a place in the world... a subterraneousregion, whereithe light of this world does not shine...
