Small ‘peepholes’ encourage engagement with exhibition from exterior, and during closed hours.

Large screen shows footage and could potentially be used for set screenings (space to be filled with seating)

Form of concrete wall follows existing site restrictions, naturally guiding visitors through.

Placard-style displays make the visitor feel as though they are in a protest. Overhead lantern provides ever-changing natural light + shadows.

Wayfinding is aided by the use of black floor strips connecting to walls. These also contain information such as quotes, to engage visitors from the outset.

Concrete / glass display cases containing artefacts (see detail elevation)

Patrons encouraged to participate by adding their message to community artwork on concrete wall, leaving them with a ‘take-home’ message and experience to share.

Bench seating required for waiting friends / family

Entry via glass sliding doors

FLOOR / SITE PLAN(NOT TO SCALE)

1 - EDUCATIONAL AREAVisitors enter to somewhat traditional exhibition area, featuring display panels and cases to the left (see detail), and a screening of protest footage and interviews.

2 - EXPERIENTIAL AREAFrom the informative area, visitors are led between walls to a room with low height ceiling, reduced width, and light only from a roof opening above. Display panels, designed to mimic placards, are spread throughout the room in chronological order of event, giving the feeling of being part of a protest.

3 - PARTICIPATORY AREAEmerging from the immersive protest, visitors are encouraged to contribute to a communal artwork, and leave a message of any kind on the concrete wall forming the building structure. It is suggested that, once the exhibition is complete, this piece could either stay in place or be relocated as a permanent sculpture.
