The “Stand up India” initiative and a Web portal for the scheme was launched on April 05, 2016 at Sector 62, NOIDA. The “Stand up India Scheme” has been launched to promote entrepreneurship amongst the Scheduled Caste/Schedule Tribe communities and Women by extending loans in the range of Rs. 1 Million to Rs. 10 Million. The Scheme is expected to benefit large number of such entrepreneurs, as it is intended to facilitate at least two such projects per bank per branch (Scheduled Commercial Bank) on an average one for each category of entrepreneur. The overall intent of the proposal is to leverage the institutional credit structure and reach out to these underserved sectors of the population by facilitating bank loans in the non-farm sector set up by such SC, ST and Women borrowers. The initiative is also intended to develop synergies with ongoing schemes of other Departments. The entire process was led by SIDBI with involvement of Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCI) and various sectors – specific institutions all over the country. The launch event involved distribution of 5100 E-Rickshaws by Bhartiya Micro Credit (BMC) under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojna scheme. The JanaJal team led by Mr. Praveen Kumar, Jt. Managing Director, inspected the venue on March 31, 2016 and observed that there was no municipal water supply connection from the UP Jal Nigam on the open ground where the event was scheduled to be held. Digging for bore wells and erection of overhead tanks was also not permitted for security reasons and restrictions imposed by the SPG (Special Protection Group) that manages the security cover for the Prime Minister. Hence it was unanimously agreed that the only source of raw water that would be utilized would be water tankers. The Execution The JanaJal team met various suppliers of water tankers in Noida and inspected the quality of raw water available with them. The challenge was to convince water tanker suppliers to fully dedicate their water tankers for the 2 days of the event i.e April 4 & 5, 2016 as the advent of the summer season meant growing demand for water in all parts of the city. Post assessment of the quality parameters of the water, the suitable vendor was selected on April 03, 2016. In consultation with a dedicated team from SIDBI, it was agreed that 20 taps be provided on both sides of the main venue to cater to maximum number of people concurrently. It was also decided to install two Supremus Aqua - Water Treatment Systems with a capacity to treat 1000 litres per hour per system to be able to achieve a consolidated dispensation rate of minimum 30,000 litres of safe drinking water on April 05, 2016.

The JanaJal drinking water facility became huge attraction for one and all since most attendees and representatives of press and media had witnessed the use of an eco friendly technology so effectively for the first time. That technology could be harnessed to cater to such a large gathering of people, without the use of electricity and without wasting a single drop of precious water was hailed by one and all as a disruptive concept poised to change the way water would be made available to communities in the near future. Delegates flocked to the JanaJal facility not only for accessing safe drinking water but also taking selfies with their colleagues and posting them on their respective social media channels. A joint team comprising of officials from the local Municipal Corporation and the UP Jal Nigam also visited the JanaJal facility to test and taste the water which was found completely satisfactory and conforming to all standards prescribed for drinking water.

The event ended with speech of Shri Narendra Modi, the Hon’ble Prime Minister who

congratulated beneficiaries and explained various government sponsored schemes for their

upliftment.

Mr. Parag Agarwal, Founder & Managing Director recently submitted a presentation on Jana Jal

to the Hon’ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee. The President has highlighted the

need for technology innovation in his valedictory speech during the India Water Week held in

New Delhi last week. He said “Too many communities in our country still lack basic water

infrastructure: considerable time and energy is spent by their people collecting water instead

of progressing to income generating activities. Proper water infrastructure would rejuvenate

these populations. In fact, locally feasible technologies and marketable innovations should

urgently be introduced in such locations. Involving micro-financing institutions would also

help to popularize these technologies”.

JanaJal is proud to offer an alternative in line with his expectations by usin g innovative & eco

friendly technologies that deliver large volumes of safe drinking water to communities at a

fraction of the cost of bottled water besides delivering massive collateral benefits as

demonstrated above.
