SpeedTally laser tally systems available from BJTubular Services increase accuracy, safety andprotection of equipment during the tallying ofcasing, tubing and drill pipe. By firing a laserthrough the length of pipe and recording the exactdistance with fully automated data loggingtechnology, the SpeedTally laser tally system hasbecome a leading technology for the rapid andaccurate measurement of racked pipe.

Used in conjunction with SpeedTop pipe trans-portation packs from BJ Tubular Services, the lasertally system also allows drilling and yard staff toload joints in the packs in running order. Nofurther disturbance of the pipe is necessary until itis ready to run in the well, and there is no need totally the pipe again offshore.

Rapid and Accurate Measurement of Pipe

The tally system combines laser technology with automated logging and data transfer software toprecisely measure and record individual pipe lengths. The laser can be fired either through or over thepipe, reducing the need to move pipe by crane or forklift to expose numerous layers.

Measurements are displayed in either metres orfeet/inches on the data logging screen. All datais stored digitally and date- and time-stamped.Stored data is transferred to office PC systemsand arranged for import into spreadsheetprograms.

The extreme accuracy of the SpeedTally lasertally system reduces the possibility for in-correct entries. It also offers numerous safetyadvantages and minimises the time users mustspend in the yard or on deck measuring rackedlengths of casing, tubing or drill pipe.

The SpeedTally laser tally system achievesgreater accuracy in the logging of pipemeasurements compared with conventional tapemeasures and hand recording methods.

Data captured with the SpeedTally laser tally system isstored digitally and date- and time-stamped. The completetally can be transferred as an electronic file to the rig.
