People say you should not judge a book by i ts cover and that is certainly true of Larissa Lam. This petite Chinese-American singer-songwriter constantly surprises people with her powerful voice. West Coast Performer Magazine declared “Lam’s style is hard to resist . . .her voice soulful ly spans the genres of jazz, blues, rock and pop.” On her fourth solo album, Love & Discovery, Lam takes l isteners on a musical journey that includes EDM, R&B and jazz. More impressively, she penned al l 12 songs on the album. These lyr ical ly and melodical ly r ich songs are not just about love, but discovering how to defeat a wily charmer (“Stronger Than You”), being adventurous (“I Feel Al ive”), conquering fear (“Paralyzed) and start ing over (“The First Day”, “Shattered”). For Love & Discovery , Lam teamed up with producer and world-renown trumpeter David Longoria, who has worked on numerous plat inum sel l ing recordings with art ists such as Sting, George Michael and De La Soul. Longoria has also had success on the Bi l lboard dance charts with CeCe Peniston’s “Deeper Love” peaking at #14 and landing at #21 with his recent hit “Zoon Baloomba.” Born and raised in Diamond Bar, CA, Lam’s singing career began as a lead singer with the gospel/techno/house group Nitro Praise on NSOUL Records. Nitro Praise was created and produced by legendary DJ, Scott Blackwell (Madonna, Missy El l iott , Taylor Dayne) . She toured nationally and recorded three albums with the group before embarking on her own solo career. Her f irst solo album, “On The Way Up,” featured the single “Say a Prayer,” which garnered airplay on col lege and public radio. Her next album “Thankful to be Live” captured the energy of her l ive shows that fans enthusiastical ly attended. Her third album, “Revolutionary,” saw even greater success with distr ibution not only in the US, but in Canada, Austral ia, Singapore and Hong Kong. I t spawned a Top 10 CCM Rhythmic hit , “Breathing More” and the song also appears in the video game, Dance Dance Revolution: Universe 2. Lam’s original music has been heard across the TV landscape including on Days of Our Lives, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Dr. Oz, E! Network, TLC and more. In addit ion to touring major cit ies & Asia with previous albums, Lam hosted a weekly talk show for nine years on faith-based network, JUCE TV.
