SUPERCOMPUTING Starting with a computer-aided design (CAD) model of the Hubble Space Telescope, researchers used the KeyShot rendering software to create a realistic high-definition image of how the satellite would appear in orbit. In response, the NASA Center for Climate Simulation (NCCS) created the Advanced Data Analytics Platform (ADAPT). ADAPT combines HPC and virtualization technologies to form a private cloud optimized for data analytics. ADAPT’s success led directly to the Goddard Private Cloud (GPC), a new virtual machine (VM) environment built using OpenStack technology. The GPC leverages the breadth of cloud functionality to serve a broader community with a more self-provisioning approach.
