    January-April 2014. Co-op student in site planning department. Designed site plans, edited drawings, checked zoning bylaws and code, specified finishes, and prepared presentations. Used Revit and AutoCAD to draw elevations and site plans for commercial retail units. Became familiar with back of house planning, zoning and retail planning standards, AutoCAD, and Revit.

    September to December 2014. Co-op student on University of Pennsylvania Political Science and Economics Building project team. Drawing editor, interior layout assistant, 3-D modeling assistant, physical modeling assistant, and rendering assistant. Used Revit, Sketchup, Photoshop and Illustrator to make presentation and contract documents for institutional projects. I participated in the Design Development phase of the UPENN project and the bidding phase of several other projects.

    July and August 2012. Receptionist and graphic consultant. Clerical office work and designed re-branding. Produced new logo and letterhead. Learned to work in an office environment. Developed organizational skills. Exercised creative skills.

    2010 to present. String quartet cellist, gig manager, and private piano and cello teacher. Studied cello privately. Co- founded a string quartet and prepared pieces for performance at corporate functions and weddings. Taught private and group lessons with the Oakville Suzuki Association.

    Hi! My name is Lara Isaac and I am a third-year Bachelor of Architecture student from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. I am eagerly looking for new travel and work opportunities as an architectural intern during the summer co-op term from May to August 2015.

    IamveryproficientwithRevit,Rhinoceros,AutoCAD,Photoshop,Illustrator,Indesign,and ArcGIS, all of which I have used at work or school to complete projects. At school, I am very interested in new software and cultural histories because I believe new architecture should be contemporary and culturally expressive. I have had three co op terms of work experience in Architecture in Toronto and I am very excited to work abroad in future terms!

    My biggest hobby is playing music, and I hold a Royal Conservatory of Toronto diploma for celloperformanceandacertificateforpianoperformance.DuringhighschoolItouredandtravelledwith the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra and for competitions. My background has made me especially interested in the architecture of performance venues and public gathering spaces.

    HOLISTIC TREATMENT OF NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERSNatural Medicine + Therapy + Natural Landscape + Community Support

    This is a speculative project exploring the plan for a therapeutic retreat facility provid-ing experimental, plant-based psychoactive medicines and therapy for patients suffering from relevant neurological disorders. This class of medicines has become increasingly relevant in the recent years, as research has revealed the effectiveness for cannabinoids to treat epilepsy, and MDMA to treat PTSD. However, these substances have the ability to be abused, and are part of federal-level banned substances acts. Thus, patients are forced to travel far and pay high prices for relief from their chronic conditions. The objective of this facility is to cultivate, administer, and increase awareness of psychoactive plant-based medicine within a safe, secure, and comfortable location. The whole, holistic therapy process is contained within the facility. The site is Dufferin Aggregates Milton Quarry in Southwestern Ontario, post-use. The quarry pit provides natural isolation, privacy, and security with its sheer rock walls and restricted entrances. It is part of a provincial environmental remediation effort, and is within a conservation area, thus guaranteeing the therapy retreat is surrounded by undisrupted natural landscapes.

    The therapy centre is placed at the nexus of four landscape conditions; forest, lake, meadow and bog. The lake and bog exist, the forest and meadow are proposed remediation strategies. As a second layer of enclosure additional to the quarry cliffs, the garden is encircled in a berm, built from quarry aggregate and reclaimed topsoil. The berm is shaped to allow each facility to occupy its own quadrant within, each at a different height for separation, and face a different landscape condition outside, to lend each facility its own atmosphere. The relationship to the berm, the inner quadrant, and the outer landscape informs the morphology of each therapeutic facility.

    This facility is designed for the privacy and comfort of the in-patients (overnight patients). This is a private facility, designed after the convent, and buried in the gardens encircling berm, promoting a peaceful, ascetic, wholesome feeling. Treatment rooms and private rooms encircle one indoor and one outdoor courtyard with an addition gar-den in the rear, giving plenty of indoor and outdoor communal space for walking and resting.

    This facility is designed to welcome the visitors of the garden. It is designed to be maximally open to receive natural daylight and contains large courtyards, galleries, and lookout points for the garden and quarry to be appreciated from.

    This community centre is a space for intermingling familial and civic life by promoting action and visibility for the young families of Cambridge. Firstly, Concordia aims to bring this preponderance to inhabit the down-town by providing spaces and activities for all ages to build skills, pro-moting the growth and wellbeing of Cambridge as a whole. Concordia Unlaced aims to be the Cambridge Communitys cozy second home.

    THE SITEThe site is located in the heart of downtown Cambridge, on the east bank of the Grand River. It is part of a long park that is popular for walking and biking, and during the summer, is home to many community events. The park to the north of the site has a popular kayak dock and seasonal hot dog joint. A long 1.6m tall berm separates the site form the riverside promenade and a 4m drop separates the promenade form the river.

    This is an exercise in rethinking and designing the portable classroom to be more comfortable, and more sustainable, while still being easily constructed. This is an exercise in climate analysis and sustainable design. This project was executed in partners over a 5-day period. It aims to address the ten ecological aspects outlined to the left.

    CLIMATE AND SITE DATAThis is a sustainable portable classroom for the Toronto climate. It anticipates a generic site: a 6x9m plot of asphalt in a typical schoolyard. It is designed to be passive and repeatable in whatever number is required.

    Location: Toronto, ON, CANTemperature Range: (-12c) - 28c Winds: Primarily Westerly43.6N, 79.6W, GMT -5Elevation: 173m ASL

    DESIGN SUMMARY: The classroom is 3x9m to suit a small 20-child class. Based on a 3x3 modular unit. It is 3x9m total to suit a 20-child class. The amenities are located along the west wall and the south coat room separate the wet from the dry areas. The coat room doubles as a sun room to maximize passive solar heating and vestibule to minimize thermal loss. Double ramps provide multiple accessibles routes for fire safety. A garden patch is provided to counteract the severity of the hard, asphalt site.

    SUNLIGHT ANALYSIS:The large sunroom windows and clerestory pro-vide 5% interior daylight factor up to 5m into the classroom. Analyses also shows the overhangs responding effectively to Torontos latitude, allowing ample sunlight in winter and providing full shade in summer

    Raised footing: services space.

    The portable classroom is designed to use standard parts, and thus be modular and fully disassemblable by workers with basic skills. The stud walls are composed of 3m wide bays and sheathed with aluminum finish EIFS panels. The foundation is of wood feet to be temporary and require no excavation.

    This design competition called for participants to design Copenhagens 21st library, a modern library for the 21st century. Our design is based on one core concept:The library is a place for the sharing and acquisition of information. In this technological age, information and knowledge has shifted almost entirely away from the analog format of books, and toward the digital format of computers. Intelligence is not about personal knowledge and private archives, but about collaboration and participation.

    The grand steps and provide outdoor sitting space and the accessible roof gives a city view unavailable in the surrounding area.

    The front doors address the adjacent park, and lateral views address the adjacent canal.

    The huge cantilever is suspended by the large upper truss box supported by a network of slanted columns

    The circulation is provided by gentle ramps which intensify into tight switchback stairs on the upper levels, approaching the accessible roof.

    The massing of the building is provided by the preservation of existing pedestrian routes. The PCPSE is an addition and restoration of a historical building, and is designed as an attached compliment to it. The new building is north of the old one, with the main entrance, lobby, and circulation core for both in the centre.A distinctive gap in the massing sets the new building apart form the old one, while the spacing and proportion of the new curtain wall tie the old and new facades together visually.     The ground floor is conceived as an urban porch, with a generous hallway running the length of the 36th St side of both buildings. The porch is used as a public lounge and student hang-out space, to provide space for studying and relaxing in between classes. The guts of the building are conceived as a huge wooden box, contianing essential programs such as classrooms, undergraduate service centre, forum, graduate offices, washroom, and services cores. This can be see from the hallways, as one walks through the building, and from outside, where wood walls and ceilings highlight important parts of the building. Faculty and Graduate Student spaces are organized by floor, with equal space for both and some mixing between.

    Mullions use a 50 grid, and every faculty office is 100 wide, giving equal space to every faculty member. Mullions are designed to save energy relative to full glazing and block sun, thus differing on different sides of the building.

    During my internship at Turner Fleischer, I produced site plan ap-proval packages, for very many retail clients projects. These pack-ages included preparing site plans, elevations, plans and statistics. At this job, I learned to use Revit and Auto CAD and read code and bylaws.

    RETAIL UNIT SITE PLAN AND ELEVATIONSI modeled this retail unit in Revit to create the elevations and plans. I specified the exterior finish schedule and assigned and updated accurate materials within the model.My involvement in the floor plan included designing the drive through, loading and rooftop units. Fixture plan is withheld for confidentiality.

    Sculpted Self-Portrait in air-dry clay. January 2013

    This is an exercise in sculpture: a self-portrait grounded in space.This is a model at 1:5 in clay, wood dowels and aluminum foil. It was developed through various iterations and media before this final form. The form of this self portrait was heavily influenced by the Greco-Roman Cultural History course at Waterloo. I chose to represent myself as crumb-ing, but standing because I think I am a very resilient person.

    The sculpture is documented in ink on mylar and rendered into two apocalypse environments with Photoshop.
