Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH's) represents one of the most common groups of persistent organic pollutants in the environment. They have been studied much more because they are toxic to many organisms and human health. The main sources of contamination in soil and sediment by TPH's include the different sectors of the petroleum industry, such as extraction, refining and consumption. Remediating persistent TPHs from soils is generally a slow and expensive process. This is particularly true for the most recalcitrant portion of TPHs. For instance, the high molecular weight fractions derived from oil refinery sludge are exceptionally hard to remediate.Total Petroleum Hidrokarbon (TPH) merupakan salah satu kelompok yang paling umum pencemar organik yang persisten di lingkungan.
