Psychedelic rocker ThePeople’s Temple is a Lansingsuccess story.Through commitment

and hard work, the guyshave scored national tours, gigs at the massive SXSWFestival in Austin and inkeda record deal with HoZacRecords, a Chicago indie la-bel known for hot under-ground rock ‘n’ roll. The band released a

three-song EP last year. Now, they’re releasing theirfirst full-length on HoZac,“Sons of Stone,” which dropsat the band’s CD releaseshow Saturday at Mac’s Bar.Guitarist and vocalist

William Young chatted withNOISE about the band’sswirling psychedelic album.

NOISE: Tellme aboutthe newLP, “Sons ofStone.”

William:The title of ourdebut LP pays homage tothe Rolling Stones. The Roll-ing Stones have always beena band that we admire andfromwhich we’ve drawninfluence. Just recently, onour road trip to Austin, ifyou had been in the van,you would have heard theStones!

NOISE:What are youmost proud of on the re-lease?

William: Looking at our

first full length, I see a milemarker to gauge in our mu-sic career. I ammost proudthat it finally got put to-gether and mastered. All thetime, energy, strain, travel-ling to record and patience— it has been almost twoyears of investment, and see-ing it come to fruition makesme proud of (lead guitarist)Alex Szegedy.

NOISE:What’s yourhope for the CD’s unveil-ing atMac’s?

William: Since movinginto Lansing, we’ve had a lotof support from our friends,so it is a show for them.Looking at the RSVP list, there are many familiar fac-es, and it will be a good cel-ebration with them.

NOISE: The People’sTemple played South bySouthwest inAustin thisyear.Must have been athrill!

William:There are somany people, you feel likeyou are at the center of theuniverse. You are walkingaround, making connections… It’s hard to explain howyou feel, but it is an over-whelming feeling. My musichad brought me farther thenI imagined. It was a great ex-perience. Very overwhelm-ing, with so little time to seeso many great acts. Great, nonetheless.

S TARFARM

TTonight is Opening Night forour Lansing Lugnuts (7:05p.m.), the lovable Class A cogin the Toronto Blue Jays fam-

ily. For a cool $8-10 a ticket, you canswing up to Cooley Law School Stadi-um and enjoy one of their 11,000 seats, the frustratingly catchy “Go Nuts” jin-gle and ridiculously cheap beverages.Tonight also happens to be Thirsty

Thursday, which always proves atempting topic for a miserly rant fromyours truly.Last year, I penned a somewhat

scathing critique of the averageThursday ’Nuts fan and I’ll stand bymy feeling that the enjoyment of base-

ball does come secondary to the en-joyment of brew on these specificnights. However, I also noted that (after

early May) I am a frequent attendee ofThursday night contests downtown.Face it: when the MSU students turnin their final exams, we summertimeinhabitants know it’s safe to ventureout again.Suddenly, the Peanut Barrel at

3 p.m. on a Friday doesn’t seem sodaunting. There are parking spots atTasty Twist again. And lo and behold:The Lugnuts restroom lines on Thurs-days don’t feel like they could turninto “UFC 186: Bring On The Pain” atany moment. The one thing missing from Thurs-

day ’Nuts games in the summer is themassive crowd— The feeling that youare doing the thing that everyone elseis doing, because it’s the best thinggoing. But, regardless of when you go to a

game you’ll still plop down in a seat

behind third base and know that astream of families, college students, high school softball players, neighborsand friends are strolling the con-course behind you. It’s inevitable: you’re going to see

someone you know. The beauty of theLugnuts is that, since 1996, it’s beenan affordable place to meet your com-munity for a night of sport, food andfun. It’s become a #lovelansing staple.Regardless of your affinity for Lab-

att Blue Light, make sure you pencilin a Lugnuts game on your spring orsummer schedule.Scratch that: pen in several. Be sure

to check the promotional schedule on-line for sweet deals and even gim-micks on non-Thursdays (ladies night,’90s night, live concerts, kids day andthe new “$1 deal day” every Tuesday). Can’t make Opening Night? Don’t

fret. The Lugnuts play at home againFriday (7:05 p.m.) and Saturday (2:05p.m.). Go this weekend, or go thissummer. Just make sure you go.

Grab a Labatt, join the ‘Go Nuts’cheer and enjoy
