Music News Welcome to the week 10 of LCPS Music Programme for 2018. Help Wanted! Music Committee Roles - Instrument Officer and Events Convenor The following roles are vacant and we welcome your assistance;

• Events Convenor: This role report to the Convenors and project manages the various annual music events throughout the year such as the Trivia Night, Spring Strings, Crazy Cupcake Day and other fundraising events, with the assistance of volunteers.

• Group Instrument Officer: The Instrument Officer is the contact point between the Music Committee and the various Instrument Officers that coordinate instrument hire in the school. The role involves overseeing the instruments that require replacement or repair, and any issues that may arise regarding hiring. They also assist with Instrument Return and Hire Days, and our annual Bang, Blow, Scrape Event.

If you are interested in either of these roles, please contact Michelle at [email protected]. Senior Music Camp

Plans for Music Camp 2018 are well under way for those with children in the year 3-6 groups, i.e. SCB, CB, TB, SSE, ISE, JSE (year 3 and above), SG & IG and CBG (year 3 and above). Music this year will be held at Wesley Vision Valley in Arcadia from 3-5th June. Registration forms were emailed to parents over the Easter weekend, so please check your email. If you haven’t received the forms or encounter any problems, please email us. Camp is a valuable part of the musical journey and if you are in one of the above groups it is expected that your child will attend unless there are extenuating circumstances. We understand it is the first time away for some year 3s, but it is a great experience with not only 9 hours of intensive music tutoring but loads of fun activities and a great time away with friends. We appreciate parental support to make sure the camp is well attended and full groups are available for intense learning opportunities.

There is a team of parent volunteers already hard at work for preparing a fantastic camp. And now the opportunity exists for you to assist too! A sign up for parent volunteers has been created at:http://signup.com/go/qDNJTZF We are in special need for a volunteer medical assistant. Our wonderful ‘On Duty Nurse’, Amanda Liddell, who has assisted for many years, will be travelling on her last Music Camp this year. We are looking for someone to assist her. Anyone interested please contact us at the above signup address. If you have any questions or concerns, please email at the dedicated email address: [email protected]

Lane Cove Public School Communication Protocols MARCH 2018

Lane Cove Public School is committed to a partnership with parents in the education of their children. Lane Cove Public School will meet its commitment to engaging in successful communication through providing open and transparent information about all our programs and procedures. These protocols outline the communication responsibilities for teachers, students and parents to share information pertaining to the education of students and to the community life of the school.

Principles of Communication at Lane Cove Public School

The objective of communication between parents and the school is always to arrive at an outcome which enhances the learning opportunities of our students. At Lane Cove Public School we expect and understand that everyone will, in any form of communication, adhere to a respectful and dignified manner at all times. In adhering to these principles we aim to strengthen the positive partnership between parents and the school, to enhance the wellbeing of students and to provide quality educational outcomes.

Lane Cove Public School Communication Channels

Newsletter (Loop)/Skoolbag/School Website/Permission and Information Notes/telephone/email/interviews/Parents e-directory

Teachers’ Responsibilities in Communicating with Parents

• Teachers will respond to parental enquiries by phone or email. This should be prompt – usually within forty-eight hours (school days).

• Teachers will contact parents if they have concerns for a student’s academic progress or welfare. • Teachers will distribute notices and information to parents or upload information to the Skoolbag before a

notice is required to be signed and returned to school. • Teachers will ensure notices are sent to the office so office staff know what is happening in the school and can

upload the notices to the website. • When a concern arises, teachers will seek advice from the appropriate supervisor and contact parents

as appropriate. • If needed, a teacher will ask parents to attend a meeting with the student and supervisor to seek clarification or

resolution or to establish a plan of support for the student. • When requesting a meeting teachers should briefly state the reason for the meeting request. • If the matter is in need of further discussion or resolution the assistance of a member of the Senior Executive will

be sought.

Parents and Guardians’ Responsibilities in Communicating with the School • Ensure contact details are always up to date with the school office. • Register with Skoolbag and subscribe to receive relevant notifications for their child/children. • Support their child/children to establish routines around daily procedures for their communication between

home and school (eg checking bags for notes and listening to announcements). • Sign in at the office when they visit. • Inform the school of the reason for their child’s absence via email or send an explanation note to the class

teacher within 2 days of their child returning to school. • When a concern or query arises about their child’s academic performance or welfare, parents should

communicate with the classroom teacher or other teacher (EALD, RFF, Learning Support) in the first instance by phone or email (if teacher email is unknown then use the school email).

• Because of the difficulties of arranging interviews for teachers in a timetabled teaching day, parents are requested to seek a mutually convenient meeting time with the staff member involved.

• When requesting a meeting parents should briefly state the reason for the meeting request. • If the matter remains unresolved, parents should advise the teacher that they would like a further meeting on the

matter with the appropriate supervisor. • If the matter is in need of further resolution the assistance of a member of the Senior Executive will be sought. • Parents are urged to regularly seek information from the established channels of communication prior to contacting

the teacher or the school.
