Creative works stir from the ability to create and transform landscapes and begins from the delicate phases of imagination. Being able to take literal objects and incorporate them into the landscape to turn imagination into reality. Transformation is a the beauty of life as much as it is a beauty to creativity.

TENNIS RACQUET TRANSFORMATIONS

Object selected was a tennis racquet. My objec-tive was to create imaginary landforms from phys-ical object through transformations and physical analysis. Using Grid layout inspired from the ten-nis nylon net using the oval shape of the head of the racquet as the landform shape.

Uconn Avery Point is home to the aquatic cul-ture of Uconn . The campus contains primarily marine biologist and serves as the home of marine biology for Uconn students. Being a regional campus, they tend to be “forgotten” when it comes to maintenance and restoration of old facilities.

COASTGUARD REPLACEMENT Program:Avery Point’s Coastguard building in the center of campus suffers from asbestos and many other airborne bacteria due to inadequate air circulation and management of the building. Due to these ailments, the building had to be closed down and the Coastguards had to be relocated in the New London County. Bring attention to the University by creating a space that will thrive with the latest Ma-rine Science building on the east end of campus.

Objective: Create a new environment for the students of Avery Point that would allow for increase of enrollment , a new coast guard/academic building and court-yard to diversify the uses of the campus.

World’s End in Hingham, MA is an island in high tide off the tip of Hingham , MA that has a direct view of Boston , MA. World’s End was once one of Massachusetts’ most threat-ened coastal landscapes. In 1890, plans were drawn up for a 163-house residential sub-division but was soon moved to New York . Twenty years later, it was a possible site for a nuclear power plant but in 1967 The Trust-ees and surrounding communities were able to preserve this as a special place keeping it from being built upon.

WORLD’S END CONCEPT This concept deals with the idea of 2 forces work-ing together. Two spirals inspired by Fibonacci explaining exponential growth spiraling in two different directions created an interesting visual . the vegetation helps gravitate pedestrians to the center or the edge of the site.

To keep the site forested is a decision made based off of recent demands for what locals wanted from the site since moving to the town . there are a few walking trails through out the site but needed new trials to give residents new op-tions to walk around.

Based out f Essex, CT The Valley Railroad Company had been servicing the lower Con-necticut River Valley since 1971. The VRC continues to keep alive the rich mechanical , industrial and transportation heritage of our state through ongoing operation of vintage steam and diesel locomotives , passenger coaches and the infrastructure to support these.

ESSEX STEAM TRAIN ANALYSIS

The Essex steam train has a long history of suc-cess but in recent years the landscape does not represent their success very well. The property is very dry as well as on several brown fields. The objective assigned by the Essex Steam train was to design a space that will provide a land-swap with the surrounding companies that would create adequate parking (increase of 200 parking spaces) and an environment that will stimulate interest to stay within the site when visiting.

ESSEX STEAM TRAIN PROPOSALInitially the protect scope was only suppose to include the Essex steam train , but with recent discoveries on the imposed forces of the site, it was concluded that involving all players of the block into the design because they will all have something to gain from the design and not much to lose.

With design influences stimulating from a steam train in literal context, the design created is sup-pose to represent the internal components of a steam train engine and propulsion. The bright colors are influenced by Superkilen Park, Co-penhagen, Denmark. This design includes the opportunity to utilize the colorful core as a plaza as well as a space to have carnivals and sell food with concession stands. Vegetation in the upper and lower side is meant to help naturally remediation the brown fields that will be taken over.

Over the Summer of 2015 , a few UCONN Landscape Architects were selected to be student speakers at the CTASLA in order to educate and bring to attention the importance of planting the right tree in the right place to prevent pruning and ruining the integrity of New England style roads and highways.

RIGHT TREE IN THE RIGHT PLACEThere are many options for trees that are can be utilized to soften street-scapes but a lot of landscapers and designers plant trees that are not suit-ed for the task. Connecticut Light and Power has created a rule of thumb that implements the idea of trimming trees a specific setback from power lines to prevent outcomes of the winter storms the state of Connecticut had in 2013. As a precaution these setbacks have been followed since then dramatical-ly reducing power outages through-out the state while on the downside, erasing the look of a New England Landscape. This Case study is used to show which trees we can use in order to preserve our New England streets and continue to have streets that have tree canopies.

Specifications are 15 feet above utility equip-ment , 10 feet below and 8 feet to the side. Tall-growing trees under power lines are selectively removed. Branches are cut according to national stan-dards to reduce harm to the tree and limit re-sprouting ; limbs are removed at main

branching points or the main trunk.

Draft construction documents for the Sundial Plaza located in front of the University’s Union Building. The design for the building is already implemented and our task was to prove our ability to draft details, CDs and proficiency in AutoCAD.

Community Design Scholarship was awarded to Students who successfully developed con-cepts that can rationally be built. Though the designs were conceptional to push the bounds of creativity , the Town of Mansfield hand se-lected which designs would be implemented and awarded scholarships to the students who were accepted into the next phases of the de-sign process.

POCKET PARKSThe Town of Mansfield , CT had hired UCONN students to develop and create concept “Pocket Parks” for the spaces adjacent to the large buildings , in order to create parks and plazas that can be uti-lized by the public instead of just for walking though . The designs concepts focused on connectivity and recreation. A few locations had multiple concepts in order to give the town more options in se-lecting which concept they would enjoy to see built and utilized on the site. After many meetings with the town , we downsized the ideas to just a few that could be seen built .
