LKI Notes Highways and Segments:
"Highway" (Hwy) is synonymous with "Route" (Rte).
Segments which are on more than one highway are listed only once, under their primary highway number assignations.
Segments not on numbered highways are grouped under pseudo highway numbers in the 901 to 999 range.
Segments which have been devolved to municipal jurisdictions are kept in the LKI for five (or more) years to facilitate reference to historical collision data.
A revised segment is given a new number if any of its landmarks have different kms in the new version. This is so that there can be no confusion over which LKI version was used to reference a location.
Side: L - Left, R - Right, B - Both sides, M - Middle, A - Above, U - Underneath
Effective Date: this is the date when a segment's landmarks are likely to start being used by the
RCMP on MV6020 accident report forms.
the date is set when a segment has undergone a significant revision (which usually means it has been assigned a new segment number).
for a July LKI release, this date is typically set to the following Jan 1.
Landmark Inventory Completeness: The LKI aims to be a complete inventory of public road intersections, bridges, railway crossings , rest areas and traffic count stations along the included segments. Inclusion of other landmark types (signs, culverts, accesses etc.) depends upon landmark density in the area, and when the landmarks were gathered.
Additional Information in the LKI:
The source MS-Access LKI database, and the Excel export from that database, contain the following information which is not included in the PDF report:
Segment Create_Date: the date of the LKI release in which the segment number was first used.
Segment Revision_Date: the date of the LKI release in which the segment was last revised.
Latitude & Longitude of each landmark. Accuracy is variable. o the LatLon_Source_ID indicates the source of the Lat-Lon o sources are listed in the LatLon_Source table o source 5 Lat-Lons are calculated from the Km, along the 2011 DRA geometry o for segments revised since 2012, Lat-Lons come from the RPMS photos or from
Google Earth, so are quite reliable.
Highway Classification o includes historical information o see tables SegClass, Class_Category and Class_Characteristic
Nodes - unique identifiers for shared end-points. This is largely for the benefit of the Collision Information System (CIS).
LKI Location Transformations: procedures are available for bulk transformation of LKI locations between LKI
versions
an application is available for doing LKI location transformations one at a time.
use the contact information on the title page for more information.
