COMMUNITY CHURCHMAN APRIL 2017
Dear Christian Friends, April has a variety of very interesting
days this year, from April Fool's Day to Palm Sunday, Maundy
Thursday, Good Friday and Easter, to Earth Day. One is kind of
silly, a recognition of human gullibility and foolishness. Four are
at the essence of our salvation from human error through the grace,
mercy and power of Jesus Christ. And yet another celebrates how we
live out the wisdom of the Christian life on this Earth. This is
the message of hope, salvation and wisdom the whole Earth - every
person, family, community and nation needs to hear at this time. We
look forward to recognizing and celebrating all these things in our
April worship services with the theme, "You have come to Jesus,"
seeing all the beautiful names, titles and roles of Christ in the
Book of Hebrews. We also look forward to meeting new people
visiting our services, or just out and about who could really
benefit from all that Jesus Christ and His Church have to offer.
For quite a few years now, we have seen people turning away from
the faith, and we have been in a dilemma trying to figure out what
to do about it. But now in this season, I feel that God is stirring
longing hearts once again and bringing women and men, and
especially young women and men and girls and boys unto Himself. To
God be the glory! I look forward to spending this beautiful and
meaningful season with you, and am always available for any needs

MISSIONS EASTER BASKETS
Every Easter we put baskets together for families in need. A
donation box will be in the foyer to receive the items below or
items may be dropped off at our office during the week. Baskets
will be filled on April 9th. Thank you in advance for contributing
and blessing these families during the Easter season. Fillable
plastic eggs Wrapped non-chocolate candy Small toys & plush
items Breakfast cereal Pop-tarts Boxed instant potatoes Gravy mix
(dry packaged) Canned vegetables Canned fruit Muffin or cornbread
mix Boxed dessert mix (cake, cookies, brownies, etc.)
We are continuing to support Lilly’s Legacy
through providing needed items for our Long Beach
homeless. A box is provided in the narthex

PRAYER IN THE
CHAPEL
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all 31 people who
signed up to participate in the 12 hours of prayer on March 4th. I
especially want to thank all 14 of my prayer warriors for doing
everything from greeting at the door and making sure that everyone
had prayer cards to pray over, to making refreshments for people to
enjoy afterwards. Every card was prayed over three times, since
many people wanted to take several of them at a time. After they
were prayed over they were put in a box in the front of the church.
On Sunday Pastor Steve once again prayed for the requests in both
services. Over 70 prayer cards were received altogether. I am
certain God was smiling down on our church as we acted as
intercessors for so many people. As always, we are available each
Sunday if you need prayer. I will be waiting just inside the door.

INSIDE LVCC
It’s almost Easter! Thank you all so much for your generous
donations of food and Easter basket items. We will be assembling
them on Sunday, April 9, and giving them to families serviced by
the Ray Fletcher Outreach. Because of you, 25 families will be able
to more fully celebrate this blessed holiday. Thanks so much to the
Missions Committee for their hard work and dedication.
April contributions include donations to Christians Outreach in
Action (COA), as well as La Comunidad Para Baja California. COA is
a nondenominational, non-profit organization that has been serving
the Long Beach community for almost 30 years. They feed the hungry,
shelter the homeless and provide spiritual support to the
emotionally weak. La Comunidad Para Baja California provides
scholarships to indigenous children in Baja. We get updates
periodically on how these students are flourishing and preparing
for university studies. Their stories are so refreshing and
inspirational. It’s easy to forget that much of the world’s youth
don’t have access to the quality education that we take for
granted.
We continue to collect toiletries and other useful items for the
homeless for Lilly’s Legacy. There is a box in the narthex for your
contributions.
Please let us know of any organization or charity that is dear
to you. We would love to extend our ministries to others. Also, if
you would like to be a part of our committee, we’d love to have
you.

Greetings from your Stephen Ministry Team. With the moving of
our clocks ahead one hour last month it reminds us that spring and
Easter are upon our doorstep. It's time to reflect on the new life
that comes to us from our Lord. The trees start getting green
again, flowers start blooming and love is in the air. In the new
life as well as love we remember what Jesus has given us at the
cross. The Holy Spirit is
working within us to be better Christians and to be more like
Jesus in helping each other. In the last few months we asked that
you pray about becoming a part of Stephen Ministry. Whether it be
as a lookout for people who could benefit from the Christ like care
that we offer to becoming Stephen Leaders or even Stephen
Ministers. Our Lord Jesus has commanded " Love one another as I
have loved you". Your Stephen Leaders are working on this year's
goals and one is to add two more leaders and at least 3 more
ministers. Plans are in the works for training new ministers, but
without commitments, it is not easy. So we ask that you listen to
your hearts and what the Lord has answered in your prayers. "Come
just as you are, hear the Spirit call". Become a part of the
ministry. If you have any questions or reservations simply ask any
one of the leaders or ministers about how rewarding helping others
in a Christ like caring relation-ship can be. Yours in Christ, The
