This is my last letter as the Chairwoman of the Lake Township Chamber of Commerce. Two years have gone by quickly and there was never a dull moment. Three years on the board (two as chair) have given me perspective. First, membership has real, tangible benefits. As I did things out of my comfort zone, I met interesting people and was blessed with opportunities. Second, membership breeds teamwork. As a chamber board, we faced chal-lenges that seemed overwhelming, but we persevered and did not accept defeat. We made tough decisions, and I look back to see that I was made stronger because of my teamwork with individuals I both enjoy and respect. I realized during one of those challenges that being a leader and decision maker isn’t easy. It isn’t always fun, and it is sometimes quite stressful! But the upside is that all of those adversities make each of us better as leaders, professionals and individuals. Collectively speaking, the team is stronger as a result. In serving others, I realize that I have gained as much as I gave. I hope in retrospect that I have helped to make the Lake Township Chamber stronger so that it may serve its members well in the future. I can’t stress enough the importance of joining, renewing and serving in this organization. I did not accept the position as Chairwoman lightly, nor did I expect to retain it for two terms. We as a board have made decisions to plan now for future leadership. So I leave this position knowing that Ally Bussey will lead the board well next year with a strong game plan in place. Thank you for the opportunity to serve. I wish every-one much success!
Teresa Fedorchak, Chairwoman
Recently, one of our members presented his member spotlight at our Morning Connections Networking and he brought forth a very good point to ponder—we can all describe where we work and what we do. But, can we describe the “why?” How much time do we spend examining that aspect of our com-pany or organization? So, it got my wheels spinning on “why” we as a Chamber of Commerce exist. Well, we can examine our Mission Statement, our Vision Statement, our Values that we created as a Board of Directors, and certainly the textbook answer is there. For me, however, it’s all about the people. We exist for you—each one of you is part of our success. It’s as simple as that. Dr. Chip Weisel quoted “The Golden Circle” by Simon Sinek in his member spotlight (check this out, you will be happy you did—www.StartwithWhy.com) and he gave a glimpse into his career journey and how he arrived at his decision—at no point was it a popularity contest, it was the belief, the purpose of the end result that kept him on the path. So….his experience makes me wonder? What is your “Why?” Have you taken a step back lately and examined that? In this small community, we are made up not of large corporations but powerful innova-tors and out of the box thinkers. I want to ask each of you to consider the “why” of your membership, and “why” it’s a great idea to promote it to other businesses and organizations in our area. “Why” not? I look forward to seeing everyone in the upcoming fourth quarter roundup of events! Best Regards,
Christa Kozy, President
