Winter Reunion Recap The moment campers began to arrive you could feel their energy, enthusiasm, and excitement fill Sportime USA. The atmosphere was electric. Watching campers greet each other and seeing their joy to be with their summer friends was contagious. It left all of us hoping camp could open right away. If there was ever any doubt about how strong the relationships are that campers make at camp, all you need do is attend the Winter Reunion. For three hours it was bedlam. Campers running from one amusement to the next, playing arcade games, climbing the rock wall, or trying one of the many at- tractions at Sportime USA. Fortunately, there were donuts and bagels, and plenty of liquid refreshments to keep everybody fueled and hydrated. And, of course, no reunion would be complete without a lucky lotto raffle and a slide show of pictures taken from last summer. Thank you to all the campers, parents, and staff members, who attended the Winter Reunion. It’s no fun waking up early on a Sunday morning. Plus, many of our camp families had long drives to get to where the reunion was being held. Three camper and their parents went the extra mile, literally, and drove all the way from Maryland. Susan Montgomery, Sasha Stupak, and Polly Sypowicz displayed amazing camp spirit and effort to be with their cabinmates and friends. That’s what the Winter Reunion is all about, reuniting and remembering the experiences we shared. Thank you for making it such a great day! Prom Themes For as long as we can remember, the themes of our two sum- mer proms have been announced at an evening flagpole as- sembly by the Evening Program Directors. Waiting with eager anticipation campers would provide the expected drum-roll and then cheer their approval. Over time, it became the way the themes were decided and how the camp was informed. Entering a new decade, we felt it was time to change the way things have been done. It was time to let our campers decide the themes of their two summer proms. And so, this past fall a poll was taken. Over a 7-day period, campers choose from a list of potential themes and cast their votes. Voting was extremely heavy. Finally, all the votes have been counted and we are excited to announce the results (drum roll, please). Our prom themes for the 2020 summer chosen by our campers are: Enchanted Forest - Mid-Summer Prom Welcome to Hollywood - End-of-Summer Prom Many thanks to all the campers who voted. Staffing NewsThe pursuit of staff members who possess the personality, the work ethic, and skill set we seek, in addition to a genu-ine love of children, is a year-round task. It is a search that truly never stops and extends well beyond the borders of the United States. This winter we have attended job fairs in England, Scotland, Poland, and Hungary and have hired amazing young men and women who will join us this sum-mer as members of our counselor, senior, and support staff.

It is exciting getting to know and work with new staff mem-bers. It is, however, our returning staff members who have the experience and know-how on which we rely. We are thrilled to welcome back all of our returning staff members. Below we have highlighted a few members of our 2020 senior staff.

John BiancoWe are very excited that John will be returning to Lake Greeley Camp for his fourth summer. The past two sum-mers John has directed the daily activities at Area 51, the camp’s skate park. Because of the one-on-one instruction and constant encouragement he provided, the skate park was consistently a top three daily activity. This summer John

March MadnessContestIf you are a basketball fan then March is definitely your favorite month of the year. Because in March, that’s when the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, commonly known as March Madness, is held. It is a single elimination tourna-ment where the best 68 collegiate basketball teams in the country battle each other for the national championship.

Picking the winners of these games has become an obses-sion for both avid and casual basketball fans. During March Madness you will often hear people ask, “Who are your final four teams” and “Who did you pick to win the national cham-pionship?”

So, we want to ask you, “Who are your final four?” “Who is your national champion pick?” What better way to find out than by running a contest. Our March Madness contest will be hosted on the camp’s Instagram page. It will begin after the tournament teams have been announced on Sunday, March 15th and run up to the start of the first round of the tournament on Thursday, March 19th.

All you need do to participate is pick the last four teams remaining in the tournament as well as the ultimate winner of the national championship. The winner will receive a limited-edition Lake Greeley Camp blanket.

Keep checking the camp’s Instagram page, @lakegreeley-camp, for further announcements.

SWB RailRidersFor those who love the game, it doesn’t get any better than watching a minor league baseball game. The Triple A affiliate of the New York Yankees, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders baseball games are exciting, there’s not a bad seat in the stadium, you’re close to the action, and, the best part of all, you never know who you might see play. In past summers, we attended games where we saw baseball su-perstars Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, and Greg Bird.

Unfortunately, due to an extended road trip in August, we are unable to schedule a baseball game during the Fourth Quarter session. The games we will be attending are:

#1 - July 7th vs. Buffalo Bison (Toronto Bluejays)

#2 - July 20th vs. Norfolk Tides (Baltimore Orioles)

#3 - August 4th vs. Pawtucket (Boston Red Sox)

The cost of each baseball game is $40.00. It includes ad-mission to the game, dinner, and round trip transportation. Prior registration is required for the RailRiders games. You can register for these games online from your CampInTouch account or you can also download the form from the Forms webpage on Lake Greeley Camp’s website.

Special DietsLake Greeley Camp’s food service staff works diligently to accommodate the nutritional requirements of campers who have special dietary needs. In the past we have met these requirements for campers with mild food allergies or dietary restrictions, such as gluten-free, vegetarian, or vegan. Prior to the start of a camper’s camp session, we request parents discuss their child’s dietary restriction with the camp’s food service representative.

Due to the higher cost of food items and the need to prepare food separately, an additional weekly fee of $35.00 will be charged.

What differentiated Ed was his positive attitude and ability to instruct all levels of players. These at-tributes, coupled with his knowledge and experience, made Ed a natural to take over as the camp’s Tennis Director.

Fern ChandlerReturning for her fourth summer, Fern will once again be our Senior Girls’ Division Director. In 2019, her first summer as division director, Fern excelled. She tirelessly assisted her campers whenever they asked and provided guidance with honesty and empathy.

Everyday we speak with prospective staff members as well as veteran staff members who have yet to finalize their sum-mer plans. When we can confirm who else is coming back this summer, we’ll let you know.
