    PAKISTAN TOURISM DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

    After some consecutivemeetings and conferences of

    both countrys delegations, itwas collectively decided thatthe bus ticket shall be chargedfor Rs.950/- (for Adults) andRs.635/- (for child) in the year 1999. it was also highlightedthat no modifications shall be made in the ticket fare at leastfor the period of 5(Five) years

    Pakistan Tourism DevelopmentCorporation (PTDC) was

    entrusted by the Government ofPakistan to operate PakistaniBus, whereas Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) operated theIndian Bus on 16

    th March 1999.

    The bus was suspended on 31st

    December 2001, due to anattack on Indian Parliament inNovember 2001 and with thiscause the Indian Governmentaborted not only the bus servicebut all communicationresources with Pakistan.

    From Falletis Hotel, EdgertonRoad, Lahore, then in

    November 2004 the PTDCLDBS (Terminal) was shiftedto a new location at 66-D-1Gulberg III, near LibertyMarket (Tel: 5755940 &5875359) and terminated atDr.Ambedkar Stadium BusTerminal near Delhi Gate,Delhi (Tel: 0091-11-2331810 &23712228. the bus leavessimultaneously from bothterminal at 06:00 hours (localtime) on every Tuesday,Wednesday, Friday andSaturday. Arrival time is

    around 17:30 hours (localtime). One way fare isPak.Rs.1500/- (or equivalentin Indian Rupees) per personwhich includes breakfast,lunch and evening teaenroute. Children below 12years of age are chargedPak.Rs.1000/- per child. Freebaggage up to 20kg per adult and 10kg per child allowed.Excess baggage is charges @Rs.70/- per person.

    From 17th March 2008 someamendments have been madein schedule of buses as wellas in the ticket fare. Now itsdaily bus service with India(Delhi) except Sunday(holiday) starting andTerminating at the sameterminal as stated above. Andthe one way fare ispak.Rs.2000/- for adults andRs.1500/- per child whichincludes breakfast, lunch andevening tea enroute. Freebaggage up to 20kg per adult

    1999 under an agreementbetween two countries,during regime of PrimeMinister Mian Nawaz Sharif(Pakistan) and Prime MinisterAtal Behari Wajpai (India). Themajor objective of the buswas to promote andstrengthen the friendlyrelations among both thecountries. Especially, forthose people who cannotavail and travel via train or by

    air, they can avail the busservice to travel to India for any cause, for instance if theyhave the divided familiesamong both countries or maybe its a business tour,medical treatment or thestudy tour. According to theagreement the bus strategiesregarding bus fare, stoppagesand the quality of travelingfacilities were defined.

    Instructions forPassengers

    No refund in case ofcancellation less than 24 hrs ofschedule departure, 50% refundwill be all allowed incase ofcancellation between 24 hrs

    and less than 72 hrs, 75%refund will be admissible incase of cancellation more than72 hrs before the scheduledeparture.

    Maximum of 29 long suitcasewith a perimeter of 80weighting up to 10kg ispermissible along with oneshoulder bag. Baggage of 10kgallowed for children and 20kgbaggage allowed per adult andfor excess baggage payment ofRs.70/- per kg.

    Lahore-Amritsar BusService

    The agreement for theoperationalisation of Bus Servicebetween Amritsar and Lahore,which was finalized during the

    second round of Technical Leveltalks held in New Delhi inSeptember 2005, was signed onDecmber 21, 2005 at Lahore. It wasdecided that this bus service wouldcommence on January 20, 2006from Lahore to Amritsar and onJanuary 24, 2006 from Amritsar toLahore.

    First Lahore - Amritsar bus fromPakistan DOSTI (Friendship)crossed the Joint Check Post of theWagah Border at 11.30 am onJanuary 20, 2006. It bridged the gap

    between two Punjabs (East andWest), that were divided by theRedcliff Line 58 years ago. Thepeople showered rose petals, as thePunjab Police band played the songGhar aaya mera pardesi. Whenthe bus entered the Indian Territory,A warm welcome was given to theDOSTI bus by Mr.Sardul Singh(Excise Minister, Punjab), Mr.RajKumar (An M.L.A.), Mr.Sunil Dutti (Mayor, Municipal CorporationAmritsar), Mr.Narinderjeet Singh(Director State Transport, Punjab) and Mr.Kirandeep Singh Bhullar

    (Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar).

    A Warm welcome at Indian Territory

    The Lahore terminal for LABS(Lahore Amritsar Bus Service) issame as for LDBS (Lahore DelhiBus Service), whereas in Amritsar(India), it is located at theinternational Bus Terminal, G.TRoad (Tel: 0183-2587070). Thebuses leave simultaneously fromboth terminals at 09:00 hours onevery Wednesday and Friday andreach their destinations at around12:00 noon on the same day. One way fare is Pak.Rs.900/- per personand Rs.600/- per child. Excessbaggage is charged @ Rs.30 per kg.

    Amritsar-NankanaBus Service

    Ever since Independence, everydevout Sikh prays to let us havefree access to the Gurudawaras leftin Pakistan. And among the

    Gurudawaras, Nankana Sahib is theholiest and most important. ThePrime Minister of India visitedAmritsar on 1st September, 2004 onthe occasion of 400th ParkashUtsav of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Theissue of pilgrimage to NankanaSahib and other religious places inPakistan was discussed by theChief Minister, Cap. Amrinder Singhwith the Prime Minister, Dr.Manmohan Singh. The solution to which was assured by the primeMinister.

    On 24th March, 2006, the PrimeMinister Dr. Manmohan Singhflagged off the much awaitedinaugural Bus Service PUNJ-AAB(symbolizing five rivers of jointPunjab of pre partition betweenAmritsar and Nankana Sahib, thebirth palce of Guru Nanak Dev Ji).

    The bus carrying 40 passengers,mostly official, will link the ancient historic cities after 59 years ofpartition.

    Calling it the beginning of a newchapter between two countries, TheIndian Prime Minister said, This isa historic day for the SikhCommunity both Punjab andelsewhere. In many ways, it is ahistoric day for both India andPakistan as well. On this historicoccasion, I send my greetings to thepeople of Pakistan and to President

    Pervez Musharraf.

    The NABS starts from PTDCTerminal near the Main Gate,Gurdwara Janam Asthan, RailwayRoad, Nankana Sahib(Tel:0562-876780) via Lahore and terminatesat the International Bus Terminal,G.T Road, Amritsar on everyTuesday and Saturday.AndDeparture from Amritsar on everyWednesday and Friday. One wayfare Rs.1200 (Adult) and Rs.800(child) and excess baggage ischarged @ Rs.50/- per kg.

    Tourist Information Centerat Lahore is renderingvaluable services for theincoming tourists bothinternational andinterregional and guidingthem regarding numeroustour packages availableespecially for theyoungsters and the

    students.

    All the visitors are being providedfull information and assistanceand they are provided with allPTDC available literature andbrochures according to theirrequirements, especially thePTDC newly printed Brochures.PTDC staff always welcomes andprovides required information to

    passengers/ customers.

    PTDC actively participates inlocal events as well. Duringthe Quaid-e-Azams PoloTournament and final matchas on 24-02-08 (Sunday) andan exhibition Polo Matchbetween Argentina andPakistan Polo teams atLahore Polo Ground as on 25-02-08, PTDC Lahore arrangeda stall at the main venuewhere free PTDC newlyprinted brochures weredistributed among visitors/ spectators. Seven VIP Kits ofPTDC tourist Literature had

    been presented to the playersof the Argentina Team atLahore Polo Ground where, His Excellency, theAmbassador of Argentinawas the chief Guest.

    PTDC has been playing a vital role in educating people about theimportance of tourism industry in Pakistan. PTDC (LHR) got richtourist literature and printed brochures which is essential andhelpful for the activities prior to marketing in different public andprivate organizations including schools, colleges, universitiesetc. In spite of, social, economic and political unrest in Pakistan,especially in North part in Swat Valley, PTDC gains good ratio oftourists every month. Somehow, we find overseas PakistaniNationals who require the information and the printed brochuresto introduce our country in abroad; our staff welcomes them and

    satisfies their all queries pertaining to their requirements.

    distributed among the visitor and the parents ofthe students.

    sets of PTDC brochures were provided to theprincipal of the Academy for the free distributionto the visitors/parents.

    PTDC (TIC) AT ALLAMA IQBAL

    INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LAHOREPTDC (TIC) Airport, Lahore operations since 1998,played an important role in familiarizing andadvertising our tourism industry for those belonging todifferent countries via tourist literature and the printedbrochures. Several staff members were deputed overPTDC (TIC) Airport during different times, and theyprovided their valuable services in the best interest ofthe organization.

    In March 2003, while Allama Iqbal International Airport(AIIAP) took a new start for international flights, PTDC(TIC) old airport office was shifted to the new one.Mr.Sumair Sarwar Jaura is now the Incharge at TICAirport.

    Some tourist Literatureand printed brochures ondisplay at TIC GulbergMain Office, Lahore. Suchinformative literature isalso displayed onexhibitions and alsodistributed among thevisitors.

    PTDC Wagha Motel

    Wagah is the only land border open between Pakistan and India (Lahore-Amritsar route). The Wagah border post is open daily for foreigners from9:00 to 15:00 hrs and the bus No.4 leaves from outside Lahore RailwayStation for Wagah every 15 minutes. PTDC got a Motel consisting fourrooms and TIC (Tourist Information Center) at Wagha Border, Lahore. OurInformation Center at Wagha border with India, is contributing a lot inproviding sufficient information and assistance for the overseas people.PTDC buses traveling to Delhi and Amritsar (India) via Wagha Border stopon the border for Immigration Custom and passengers are provided withBreakfast/ refreshment at Wagha Motel.

    Flag Lowering Ceremony at WaghaIndia and Pakistan share a single border that cuts straight through thetown of Wagah: the eastern half sits in India and the other half in Pakistan. Border conflicts kil led countless people in both countries back in 1947 - anddecades later, skirmishes still kill thousands. At the sound of a bugle call, therepresentatives of both countries - the Pakistani Rangers, and the IndianBorder Security Force march quickly to the gates. Upon stopping, these

    guards throw forward one leg, as high as their own heads, and stomp it down tothe ground. This is done while glowering fiercely at the opposite side. They thanannounce their contempt for each other with strong, emphatic displays ofthumbs-down.

    Festival of Lamps

    MELA Chiraghan (the festival of lamps) at the shrine of Hazrat Shah Hussain(RA), adjacent to the Shalamar Bagh(Shalimar Garden), LahoreIt is one ofgrand events in the provincial capital and hundreds of thousands ofdevotees from all over the country take part in the festivity. Traditionally, devotees light Chiraghs (lamps) at the shrine in the month of March. MelaCharaghan or lamp festival is held annually in the last week of March nearShalamar Gardens. At dusk lamps are lighted outside the gardens while theinner side is lighted with electric Lamps.

    National Horse and Cattle Show

    The show has been described as an eloquent expression of Pakistan'sheritage and an authentic account of its agricultural and industrialachievement's. It is held in Lahore Fortress stadium at the end of Februaryor at First week of March. The fortress stadium, the venue of the show isthronged by active participants, foreign visitors and peoples who watch thefestival with great enthusiasm, verve and aplomb.

    A large number of them are interested in watching and appreciating the bestbreeds of livestock. Many derive pleasure by watching other activities suchas display parade of animals, dances by horses and camels, polo matches,tent pegging, dog shows and their races, vaudeville acts of stuntmen, massdisplay of military band, rhythmically physical exercise by the children.

    Tastefully decorated industrial floats and torch light tattoo shows.Additional attractions include a subtle interplay of lights to weave enticingpatterns at night and breath taking acts by foreign groups. The show beganas a modest exhibition organized by the army to project the cattle wealth ofthe country in the early fifties.

    Today it is an international event to which come dignitaries from abroad andvisitors and foreign tourists. The organizing committee comprisesrepresentatives of a number of agencies including army, rangers, LMC

    schools, the police, industrialists and the art councils.
