It was great to welcome all of the students back this week after half term. We hope that you all had a lovely

break.

Please can all parents ensure that students bring in a pencil case, reading book and a clean water bottle at all

times? This would help lessons to start smoothly in order to maximise learning.

Spring term 2 is an important term for all students as they are working towards their Summer assessment

particularly Y6 who have their SATS in May. Please can all parents encourage students to read frequently, complete homework but also to take time to get involved in other hobbies as well as family time.

Whilst we will be extremely sad to say goodbye to Mr West at Easter, we are very pleased to announce that we

have successfully appointed a new Deputy Headteacher, who will join us after Easter. Mr Grocutt, who is very

experienced in leading behaviour and safeguarding will be joining the Leadership Team here at PMS, working

alongside Mr Meredith (Assistant Headteacher), our Business Team: Mrs Ablewhite and Mr Smith and our

Extended Leadership Team members: Mrs Gutteridge, Miss Walker and Mr Cole.

Thank you to the vast majority of parents who drive extremely carefully on the car park and drive. However,

this week we have a couple of cars drive up the drive at speed. We may have an increase in cyclists now Y5 have

completed bike-ability so please be mindful of that. Any cyclists who have successfully taken the bike-ability

course need to collect a permission letter from the School Office in order to cycle to school. This letter outlines a

series of safety points that need to be followed at all times when cycling to and from school and for moving

within school with their bike.

It’s World Book Day soon and yet again we will be celebrating it by dressing up on Friday 8th March and

following this year’s theme: ‘share a story’, spreading the vital message that sharing a story with children for

just 10 minutes every day can make a crucial difference – helping to create readers for life.

We’d like students and staff to come dressed as a character from one of their favourite childhood books and to

bring along a copy of that book to share with others. If students choose not to dress up they must wear

normal school uniform.

As always, students will receive a World Book Day token which they can redeem at participating stores.

Additionally, there’s a whole range of competitions to enter and resources to enjoy.

For a great start to preparing for World Book Day, check out the suggested list of stories that are great for

sharing:

https://www.worldbookday.com/ideas/100-stories-to-share/

We look forward to seeing everyone dressed up and sharing a text or two.

Happy reading!

We are delighted to inform you that we have organised for KS2 to enjoy a visit from the incredibly popular

‘Punctuation Show’ on Friday 8th March. Students will get to enjoy performances based around two different

themes: reading and grammar.

The shows combine a comedy show, a rock concert and a (literally) all-singing, all-dancing literacy lesson to

create an impact on every student’s learning.

Barrie from the Punctation Show says “When we go to the theatre, or a concert, we remember what we've seen.

We talk about it with our friends. It's an experience that we learn from. The concept of The Punctuation Show

adapts this to the school curriculum.”

More information regarding the content of the show can be found on the website www.thepunctuationshow.com

24th - 26th June 2019

Thank you if you managed to complete and return the Medical and Dietary Information sheet at last night's

Parents' Evening.

If you were unable to attend, please look out for the form coming home tonight with your child.

It is vital that any outstanding sheets are returned to the School Office by Thursday 7th March so that we may

inform the centre of any particular needs.

Please also be aware that the deadline of 1st April is looming for the full payment of £230 for the visit. Sadly we

cannot accept late payments as we too have a strict payment schedule to follow from JCA and failure to comply

could jeopardise the entire trip.

There will be a Parents' Information Evening organised in the summer term when we will issue kit lists and

share the activity programme. Please look out for details in L'hebdo.

Please read the information below to see the activities that your child/children will be learning this half term

(Monday 25th February – Friday 12th April 2019) and the kit that they are required to bring to the lesson. Our

apologies for not getting this information to you sooner.

It is important to note that the activities will change to athletics later on in this half term. This is due to a very

short summer term 1, where we would be unable to complete the athletics module. Thank you.

All boys’ PE lessons (except swimming) will require their PE top, black shorts, black PMS zip top, PE socks and

trainers. Y6 boys will also require shin pads and we strongly advise students to have gum shields to

wear and a hockey protective glove when playing hockey.

Lesson 2 Hockey Hockey Dance Hockey Dance

All girls’ lessons (except for swimming) will require their PE top and black shorts (PE socks and trainers will

still be required if the weather prevents the boys being outside). Y5 and Y7 girls will also require shin pads

and we strongly advise students to have gum shields to wear and a hockey protective glove when

playing hockey.

Students can wear their red top or PE fleece (boys) or black sweater or PE fleece (girls) if the temperature drops during the term.

Year 5 students who are swimming (5SJ) will need their costume/trunks, towel and cap, if required. Please

note that 5SJ will have their last swimming lesson on Tuesday 7th May 2019. So, on Tuesday 14th May, 5TG will start their swimming sessions. Goggles can be worn if necessary (Permission must be obtained for wearing

goggles. Letters are available from the school office).

It is unfortunate that 5JB missed a lot of their swimming lessons due to the pool closure. There are timetable

reasons why we are unable to carry this class through. However, we will discuss this issue in our next

departmental meeting.

Useful things to know: Please note that some of the information below refers to students who

have our previous kit and not the new PE kit.

Your child will be able to participate fully in a lesson if they have all the kit required for the activity. We have had lots of students in the first Autumn term who have been quite disorganised and some bringing their own version of the PE kit. Please support us in ensuring our kit rules are applied. Thank you.

Please ensure all kit and uniform are named. In the event of loss of an item of kit or uniform, then anything found is put in the ‘lost property’ boxes at the end of the PE corridor. Please encourage your child to look in these boxes if they have misplaced/lost something.

In the event of your child abstaining from PE; then a separate note must be provided and signed by the parent/carer. They must also change into their kit and take an alternative role in the lesson. We understand that this won’t always be possible.

A towel is required when the lesson is football. Pupils are encouraged to demonstrate good hygiene, washing their arms and legs, as time does not permit a full shower.

Black tracksuit bottoms are an option during the colder months if the teacher deems it necessary to wear them. Please bear in mind that your child still needs shorts when the weather keeps us indoors.

It is important that your child wears the appropriate top for the weather (i.e. red top/black sweater/black PE fleece - cold days, white top –warm days)

Students with long hair must have it tied back. For safety reasons, ear studs, watches and charity/friendship bands are to be removed at the beginning of PE lessons and when participating in any other physical activity. In some cases, we allow ‘fitness’ style watches to be worn. However, we do ask them to be covered up with a wrist sweatband.

If your child wants to have his/her ear pierced, then can we suggest the start of the summer holidays so that it can be removed for PE lessons when they start back in September?

If you choose to have the ear/s pierced at any other time, then the parent of the child should supply him/her with something to cover them during the lesson. Please note that your child will be unable to participate in activities where the piercing poses a risk even if it is covered up.

Please encourage your child to keep their nails short, especially in games like basketball/netball. Aerosols/deodorant aerosols are not allowed in PE/School. Please encourage your child to be hygienic and not to wear their kit under their uniform before or after

the lesson. Appropriate sports footwear should be worn for the lesson; that has adequate grip and support for the

activity being taught. School shoes are not appropriate. If you have any questions/issues about kit or the above points, then please contact the PE department

on 01785 413400 Important information regarding extra-curricular clubs:

1. Students must wear their full PE kit for all clubs including shin pads and boots for football. The exception is

dance club.

2. Students must wait for their teacher before starting their activity.

3. Students should eat their lunch directly after the activity and change back into uniform before the end of

lunch, unless they have PE or a fixture in the afternoon, of course.

4. Get involved and enjoy!

Thank you.

With reading being such an important factor in a child’s learning

and progress, we have organised the return of our annual Scholastic Book Fair. Children will

have the opportunity to browse and purchase a new and exciting book during the lunchtimes

of the above dates. Please ensure your child has their money safely secured and clearly

named.

In addition, we would like to invite parents and carers in on Wednesday 27th

February 3:30-4:15pm and Thursday 28th February (during Parents’

Evening) 4:00-6:00pm to come and have a look at the books on offer too.

It is likely that books will run out or we may not have the book that you have spotted in the

brochure. If this is the case, please let us know as we are able to order directly from

Scholastic.

Look forward to seeing you there!
