Spring 2019

Dear Graduates:

Congratulations! Barring any last-minute complications, the hard work and sacrifice you willingly devoted to your studies over the past several years are about to culminate in the formal conferral of your associate degree or certificate. This will occur at Commence-ment on Sunday, May 19, when the President of the College will hand you the credential that will confirm your status as a graduate and your freedom to enjoy thereafter “all the rights and privileges” your degree or certificate brings!

This event is important not only to you and your families but also to the entire Lackawa-nna College community. All its members look forward to celebrating with you not only Graduation Day itself but also each of the preliminary functions highlighting extracurric-ular achievements. If, for instance, you have qualified for membership in the Phi Theta Kappa or SALUTE honor societies, have earned academic awards, or participated in clubs and activities, you will certainly wish to take part in the Honors Convocation on May 5. Commencement starts the morning of May 19, and the complete schedule of events and details can be found throughout this booklet.

We sincerely hope you had such a wonderful experience at Lackawanna College that you decide to remain with us for your bachelor’s degree! If you would still like to enroll, you are not too late. Please contact our Admissions Department at (570) 961-7898 or 1-877-346-3552 as soon as possible to begin your bachelor’s transition.

Even though you are no longer attending classes after graduation, you will still maintain your ties to Lackawanna College. As a member of the Alumni Association, you can take part in numerous social functions and, of course, as you advance in your profession, you should not hesitate to inform us of promotions, transfers, additional degrees or certifica-tions, and other recognitions.

Your success is important to us! Occasionally, you may receive surveys from the College asking about your experiences since graduating from Lackawanna College. Your carefully considered responses are vital in providing us with accurate data for use in our efforts to constantly improve our institution. We thank you in advance!

You have been, are, and will always remain important to us. For your family, friends, colleagues, and clients, “Lackawanna College” is identified with you. You are, in essence, our best advertisement. We take pride in all you have done and all you will do.

Best wishes,

Lackawanna College2018 Graduation Committee

If you have not already done so, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at (570) 961-7859. If you plan to transfer between schools, and you maintain continuous enrollment, your loans can be deferred. Visit the Financial Aid Office of the college you will be attending for help.

Graduation Announcements to NewspapersDear Members of the Class of 2019:

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation from Lackawanna College. Your hard work and commitment to learning make your degree a well-earned reward.

We would like to explain how Lackawanna College’s Office of Marketing and Communi-cations will handle graduation announcements in local newspapers. Our goal is to help you receive the recognition you deserve, whether you live in Northeastern Pennsylvania or reside in another state.

On the day of Commencement, a description of the event and the names and home-towns of all of the graduates will be distributed to the daily newspapers in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties. They normally carry the story with the names of the graduates within their circulation area. For graduates of our satellite centers (Hazleton, Lake Re-gion, The School of PNG, Sunbury, and Towanda), we forward the story and names to the Directors of the Centers who adapt this information for local distribution. Unfortunately, due to space restrictions, they often omit the names of graduates from areas outside their circulation or those out of state.

All newspapers are interested in publishing stories that reflect accomplishments of local residents. We encourage you and your family to contact your local newspapers and pro-vide them with information about your graduation. Usually, they welcome information and listings of local graduates from area colleges and universities. Often, particularly in smaller communities, they will do a feature story.

We have provided you with a sample news announcement on the following page. You can use this as a guideline for submitting the announcement to your local media. You can add interesting notes and accomplishments, but be advised that your submission may be edited for content and space. Before you submit, we recommend that you con-tact the paper to find out the contact name and preferred method of submission (email, Word document, etc.). An appropriate contact will also improve your chances for pub-lication. For example, if you had an outstanding athletic career during high school, you may consider sending your information to the sports editor, especially if you continued participation at the collegiate level.

If you have any questions, please call (570) 955-1456. Best wishes for your graduation and future. We hope you will always remain close to Lackawanna College.
