General Rules

No food, chewing gum, or drinks are allowed in a lab.

Lab glassware should not be used as containers for food or drinks.

Only work on experiments when teacher is present in the lab.

Do not conduct unauthorized experiments.

General Rules

Always be prepared for an experiment by reading all directions and procedures before beginning.

Keep area clean and clear of clutter.

Keep walkways clear of obstacles.

When working with chemicals always work in a well-ventilated area or with a fume hood.

Always read chemical labels before using them. Double-check them to make sure they are the correct ones.

Never return used chemicals to the original container.

Always dispose of chemicals properly. Your teacher will provide you with the way chemicals will be disposed of.

Never eat the chemicals used in the lab.

General Rules

Never leave an open flame unattended.

Be careful when working or handling hot glass; do not place hot glass in cold water or vice versa. Allow the glass to cool or get to room temperature. Handel hot or cold glass with tongs.

Do not point the open end of a heated test tube at yourself or anyone else.

Clothing

Always wear safety goggles and safety aprons when working with chemicals.

Always wear long hair in a ponytail.

Do not wear shorts/capris when working with chemicals or in a lab.

Do not wear open toed shoes in a lab.

Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry in a lab.

Safety Equipment

Always know where the safety equipment is kept.

Know how to properly use safety equipment.

When an accident or spill occurs notify the teacher immediately

If a glass equipment is broken dispose of it in the Broken Glass Container. Do not handle broken glass with bare hands notify your teacher.

Safety Equipment

Always examine glassware before using, check for cracks.

Do not handle electrical equipment near water.

 If you get chemicals in your eyes immediately go to the eyewash and was eyes out for designated amount of time.

If you get chemicals on your skin rinse off chemicals in sink or shower for designated amount of time

Always notify the teacher if this occurs.
