Over two days, four international guest scholars will present their latest work, as well as discuss these contributions with GRCP’s and audience members. Friday April 5 th 9-9:15 AM Arrival and greeting of guests 9:20 Opening words by Dr. Thierry Giasson, Lead Researcher, GRCP 9:30 Are ITCs Redefining Political Journalism? Presentation by Dr. Sylvain Parasie, Université Paris-Est / Marne-la-Vallée, France Senior Lecturer at Université Paris-Est / Marne-la-Vallée (UPEC), Sylvain Parasie’s research investigates how technological transformations and their uses affect the industry of news and communication. He chairs the Masters Program in Business Communication and Sociology of ITCs at UPEC. He holds a Ph.D in sociology, is a member of the editorial boards Réseaux and Terrains & Travaux, and is co-convenor of the Media Section of the Association française de sociologie. With his colleague Eric Dagiral, Dr. Parasie is currently investigating the relation between new forms of online journalism (data journalism, hyperlocal journalism) and democracy. His recent contributions have been published in New Media and Society, Sciences de la société, Les cahiers du journalisme and La revue française de science politique. 10:50 Coffee break 11-11:55 Discussion on Dr. Parasie’s presentation and on new political journalism. 12:00 Lunch break 1:00 pm Mediatisation of Politics: Does an Appealing Story Survive Empirical Tests? Presentation by Dr. David Nicolas Hoppman, University of Southern Denmark, Denmark David Nicolas Hopmann is Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). His research is dedicated to political communication, journalism and interpersonal communication. He is a member of the Center for Journalism at SDU. In 2012, he won the Young Elite Researcher Award from the Danish Research Council. His current work investigates mediatisation of politics, but also effects of interpersonal communication on electoral knowledge, attitudes and behavior as well as how media fragmentation affects audiences in western democracies. He has published in, among others, Communication Methods and Measures, Party Politics, European Journal of Political Research and Journal of Communication. 2:20 Coffee break

Goodand Democracy. Presentation by Dr. Heather Savigny, Bournemouth University, UK

Heather Savigny is a Senior Lecturer of Politics in The Media School of Bournemouth University. She is a member of the School’s Politics and Media Research Group. Her research focuses on political communication, international relations, gender history and research methods. She is co-convenor of the PSA-UK Media and Politics Group (MPG) and an editorial board member of British Politics. Her most recent contributions investigate political marketing practices. In 2008, Dr. Savigny published The Problem of Political Marketing (Continuum). Karen Mossberger, University of Illinois, Chicago Karen Mossberger is a Professor of Public Administration at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Dr. Mossberger holds a Ph.D in Political Science and her research investigates local governance, municipal politics, ITCs and online governments. She is co-editor of the Georgetown University Press series on American Governance and Public Policy. Her current research looks at practices of e-government and digital citizenship.
