Jonathan Mamora is a sophomore Piano Performance/Pre-Medicine major at La Sierra University. He has been studying piano for the last 15 years and is currently studying with Dr. Elvin Rodríguez. His former piano teachers include Helen LaiPang, Dr. Lily Diehl, and Kevin Fitzgerald. He has competed in many competitions and won many awards, including 2nd prize at the IIYM International Piano Competition, 1st prize in the Music Teacher’s Association of California (MTAC) Solo Competition, South Section, Platinum Prize in the Glendale Piano Competition, and 1st prize in the Redlands Bowl Young Artists Piano Competition. He has been a prizewinner in the International Russian Music Piano Competition, the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, the Southern California Junior Bach Festival, the Edith Knox Performance Competition, and the Bronislaw Kaper Awards Competition. He has also competed in the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition, the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, the Hilton Head International Piano Competition, and the Oberlin International Piano Competition. In 2012, he was accepted into the prestigious Young Artist Guild given by the Music Teachers’ Association of California. He was the 1st place winner of La Sierra University’s 2013 Promising Young Artist Competition, and he recently won the 2014 La Sierra University Concerto Competition. He has worked with many world-renowned and local teachers and musicians, including Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Stanislav Ioudenitch, Sara Davis Buechner, Stewart Gordon, Daniel Pollack, James Bonn, Bernadene Blaha, and Santiago Rodriguez. Jonathan has traveled around the nation and performed in many different places, including a recent performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the La Sierra University Orchestra. At school, he is a member of the La Sierra University Wind Ensemble as a percussionist, the La Sierra University Chamber Singers, Chorale, and a cappella UNITED as a bass, and student chamber groups as a pianist. He is also a member of the Honors Program at La Sierra University. He often performs as an accompanist for vocalists, instrumentalists, ensembles and choirs.
