Supporting La Purisima’s Student Council
It has been a long tradition that LPCS Student Council chooses an organization to donate the collection from each Friday 8:15 am school Mass as part of their mission/student learning expectations of “Extend Your Hand”. The first trimester is a global organization, the sec-ond trimester is a national group, and the third trimester is a local community organization. They research the group, check its rating, and send the group for approval by the principal. First trimester's group was Sante Kasando, a health clinic located in the Democratic Repub-lic of Congo. It is one of the clinics founded by the Sisters of the Company of Mary. LPCS will be sending the Sisters a check for $1,760.00, which they will forward to the clinic. Second trimester’s collection is for the Alzhei-mer’s Foundation. Please direct any questions regarding this collection to the student council faculty advisor Ms. Valdez at [email protected].

LP Fish Fry—2020
We are assembling the team to put on the Fish Fry 2020, the 24the year of the LP Fish Fry. We are in need of leads in several areas and workers
in most areas. If you are anxious for the return and success of the Fish Fry, please let us know that you would like to help rebuild this great par-ish event. The lead spots open include: Team Taco, pizza warmer, fish fryers, inventory, hall cleaning, and trash management. Team members

The Fish Fry Needs Your Help From the very beginning, the major goal of the Fish Fry has been to bring the Parish Community together. While fund raising is also an important aspect of the Fish Fry, it is not a driving force. Your donations can help with our major goal of making the Fish Fry available to as many parishioners as possible by subsidizing some of the costs and keeping the prices as affordable as possible. This year’s profit will be split 50/50 between our LP School for scholarships or other needs and with the par-ish for a special project to be announced shortly. In addition, as we did in 2016 and several prior years, we are restarting the Fish Fry for All program. Your donations can be made directly to the LP Church Office or you may donate in special canisters to be placed at the order desk each week of the Fish Fry. Your donations will be used to provide dinner tickets to those who could not otherwise afford to attend. These tickets will be distributed each Friday morning at the LP Trinity Guild Pantry. Some ideas for your donation to defer costs for the Fish Fry are: - Equipment Replacement Sponsor - $500 - Fish Sponsor for a week - $500 - Clam Chowder Sponsor for a week - $300 - French Fry Sponsor for a week - $200 - Etc You may direct your donation to any of the following areas : Fish Fry for All, LP School, a special LP Parish Project to be announced soon or for the overall reduction of costs for the Fish Fry. Note that as a major donor, You will be able to have a reserved table for you and your group at one of the Fish Fries. You can order directly from your table – no waiting in line. F . B ’ C THE CLOSING OF THE PARISH COFFEE SHOP
THE TRANSITION TO THE VOLUNTEER MINISTRY My dear Parishioners: I regret to inform you that the parish coffee shop was closed on Mon-day 2/3/2020. We are now in the transition to the volunteer ministry with its self funded operation. The shop has been consistently losing a significant amount of money. From December 2018 to June 2019 (7 months) we lost $25,000. It was an average of $3,571 per month dur-ing the last fiscal year 2018-2019. From July 2019 to January 2020 (7 months) we lost $38,500. It was an average of $5,500 per month dur-ing this current fiscal year 2019-2020. We are not able to continue to operate our parish with this deficit. We must do our best to operate to meet our monthly expenses with a surplus of funds. I appreciate your prayer, support and understanding. May God bless all of us abundant-ly as we are, in 10 days, beginning the season of Lent on Ash Wednesday 2/26/2020 with spirit of prayer, fasting and almsgiving! In Christ, Fr. Mis queridos feligreses: Lamento informarles que la cafetería de la parroquia fue cerrada el lunes 2/3/2020. Estamos ahora en la transición hacia el ministerio de voluntarios con su operación autofinanciada. La cafetería ha estado perdiendo constantemente una cantidad significativa de dinero. Desde diciembre del 2018 hasta junio de 2019 (7 meses) perdimos 25,000 dólares. Fue un promedio de 3,571 dólares por mes durante el último año fiscal 2018-2019. Desde julio del 2019 hasta enero de 2020 (7 meses) perdimos 38,500 dólares. Fue un promedio de 5,500 dólares por mes durante el actual año fiscal 2019-2020. No podemos contin-uar operando nuestra parroquia con este presupuesto. Debemos hacer todo lo posible por operar para cubrir nuestros gastos mensu-ales con un excedente de fondos. Suy niệm Lời Chúa: Mt 5, 17-37
Thiên Chúa là một nhà giáo đầy kinh nghiệm. Ngài đòi hỏi con người phải vươn lên, nhưng Ngài không đòi hỏi điều vượt quá khả năng của họ. Khi ban Mười Ðiều Răn cho dân Israel, qua ông Môsê, Luật Môsê là một tiến bộ lớn trong nền luân lý ,nhưng vẫn chỉ là bước chuẩn bị cho luật của Ðức Giêsu. Luật mới này không phá bỏ, nhưng kiện toàn luật cũ. Kitô hữu không chỉ xét mình theo Mười Ðiều Răn, mà hơn nữa còn xét mình theo tinh thần Bài giảng Trên núi. Lời của Chúa Giêsu phải là thước đo để ta xét mình Có khi nào bạn tự kiểm dựa trên một đoạn Tin Mừng không? Ðoạn Tin Mừng hôm nay mời ta nhìn lại miệng và mắt, hai giác quan dễ được dùng để phạm tội. Miệng là nơi phát xuất những lời lăng mạ, dối trá. Lời nói biểu lộ tâm hồn con người: lòng có đầy mới tràn ra miệng (x. Mt 12,34). Khi đêm về, nhìn lại những gì mình đã nói, ta thường thấy có rất ít yêu thương và sự thật, nhưng lại đầy ắp cái tôi ích kỷ, lọc lừa. Mắt không chỉ là cửa sổ, mà là cửa chính của tâm hồn. Các cơn cám dỗ thường qua cửa đó mà đến với ta. Eva nhìn trái cấm, Ðavít thấy người phụ nữ khỏa thân. Cái nhìn đem lại khoái lạc và thổi bùng lên ngọn lửa thèm muốn, khiến người ta dám làm chuyện trái luân thường đạo lý. Chúng ta đang bị bao vây trong một thế giới đầy hình ảnh. Tivi, phim ảnh, sách báo, video, thời trang, quảng cáo... tất cả tìm cách lôi cuốn cái nhìn của ta, kích thích khoái lạc nơi con mắt và cả thân xác. Những điều cao quý và thiêng liêng như thân xác, như đời sống thầm kín vợ chồng lại bị trở thành tầm thường, dung tục. Tình yêu chỉ còn là vội vã chiếm đoạt thân xác nhau trong cơn mê say nhất thời, chứ không phải là sự trân trọng hiến dâng chính mình trong một quyết định chín chắn và đầy trách nhiệm. Ðức Giêsu nói đến thứ ngoại tình do cái nhìn thèm muốn. Làm sao tôi giữ được đôi mắt trong suốt của trẻ thơ? Làm sao để trí tưởng tượng và trí nhớ không bị vẩn đục?
Cầu nguyện:
Lạy Chúa Giêsu, xin biến đổi con, xin biến đổi con từ từ qua cầu nguyện. Mỗi lần con thấy Chúa, xin biến đổi ánh mắt con. Mỗi lần con rước Chúa, xin biến đổi môi miệng con. Mỗi lần con nghe lời Chúa, xin biến đổi tai con. Xin làm cho khuôn mặt con ngời sáng hơn sau mỗi lần gặp Chúa. Ước chi mọi người thấy nét tươi tắn của Chúa trong nụ cười của con, thấy sự dịu dàng của Chúa trong lời nói của con. Thế giới hôm nay không cần những kitô hữu có bộ mặt chán nản và thất vọng. Xin cho con biết nhẫn nại và can đảm cùng đi với Chúa và với tha nhân trên những nẻo đường gập ghềnh. Amen!

∗Mỗi chiều thứ Sáu mùa Chay bắt đầu tháng 2 ngày 28 giáo xứ có tổ chức bán Fish Fry từ 5:00 pm đến 8:00 pm, có gian hàng Việt Nam với những món: Cơm chiên, chả giò chay, gỏi cuốn tôm. Kính mời cộng đoàn dân Chúa ghé ủng hộ.
∗ Ban Chấp Hành xin thông báo về lớp học Safe Envi-ronment Class bằng tiếng Việt dành cho người lớn sẽ được tổ chức vào thứ Bảy cuối tháng ngày 29 tháng 2 lúc 5:15 chiều (thời gian học chừng 30 phút) do Thầy Sáu Đức phụ trách. Thành phần cần tham dự khóa học gồm có: Những Thừa Tác Viên Thánh Thể đem Mình Thánh Chúa tới tư gia. Những người có liên hệ với trẻ em trong giáo xứ (sinh hoạt, dạy học). Những người lấy chìa khóa các phòng trong giáo xứ để hội họp, Ban Trị Sự các hội đoàn, ngày và giờ của lớp tiếng Việt nói trên. Đây là những đòi hỏi của giáo phận đưa ra và các Cha có nhiệm vụ phải báo cáo. Trong buổi học này, học viên sẽ được phát đơn để đi lăn dấu tay (finger print), chỉ làm một lần mà thôi. Còn lớp Safe Environment thì 3 năm học lại một lần. Thầy Sáu sẽ trả lời những thắc mắc nếu có trong lớp học. Ngoài ra những ai muốn tự học tại nhà bằng tiếng Mỹ, xin vào trang mạng
