A worm climbedthe bamboo stalk.

it crossed the nightingale’s shadow.A carp peeked out at the shore.

Everything shook,everything movedaround the pool.

Everything except the bamboo.

Was spring still distant from the pool?the bamboo wanted to know.

The bamboo desiredto go wherever it was that

the nightingale goes,but it was tied to the land,

forced to remain by the shore.Who will free me from my roots? it wondered.

The bamboo asked the nightto move it freely.

La noche convirtió al bambú en salamandra. The night turned the bamboo into a salamander.

At dawn,the salamander left behind the pool’s shore.it ran over the grass, crossed the sandy path.

it took refuge beneath the old fallen tree.it sunned itself on the rocks.

Pero la serpiente era dueña de las piedras,de los árboles, de la arena y la hierba.

Era dueña del estanque.La salamandra se reconocía frágil y pequeña.

Temió a la serpiente.

but the serpent was the master of the rocks,of the trees, of the sand and of the grass.

it was the master of the pool.The salamander realized how fragile and small it was.

it feared the serpent.

The salamander asked the nightto be strong and large.

La noche convirtió a la salamandra en grulla. The night turned the salamander into a crane.
